Donald Trump’s handling of the COVID-19 outbreak has been criticized around the world, and yet he still will not hand over the pandemic response to America’s best and brightest. Coronavirus is sweeping the nation, and the past few days have definitely been the worst we’ve seen, despite the president announcing that he will be forcing businesses to reopen amidst the outbreak so that his precious economy doesn’t tank too hard.
Now, Trump has come up with yet another bright idea, and this one is a doozy. On Thursday, Trump sent a letter to every governor in the nation, and the new plan he laid out was so stupid that you won’t have a very hard time believing he said it.
In the letter, Trump said:
“With each passing day, our increasingly extensive testing capabilities are giving us a better understanding of the virus and its path. As testing gives us more information about who has been infected, we are tracking the virus and isolating it to prevent further spread. This new information will drive the next phase in our war against this invisible enemy.”
“There is still a long battle ahead, but our efforts are already paying dividends. As we enhance protections against the virus, Americans across the country are hoping the day will soon arrive when they can resume their normal economic, social and religious lives.”
The really dumb part is attempting to classify the safety of counties based on how many were sick or dead, but the shortsighted plan doesn’t take into account that someone from the next county over could simply drive or walk over and easily infect a country deemed safer.
White House coronavirus response coordinator Deborah Birx said this:
“Part of this will be the need to have highly responsible behavior between counties, And I think the American people can understand that, that they will understand where the virus is… and where it isn’t, and make sure that they’re taking appropriate precautions.”
What is shocking is the number of seemingly intelligent people willing to make themselves look incredibly dumb by touting one of Trump’s ridiculous ideas. There is a reason that the CDC doesn’t classify counties by safety, and that is because state borders are open.
Wednesday, Trump said this:
“If you take a look at the states — and many states that I’m talking about, they don’t have a problem — we have some big problems, but it’s confined to certain areas, high-density areas,” Trump told reporters on Wednesday. “So why would we test the entire nation — 350 [million] people?”
According to Yahoo News:
The U.S. has reached a grim milestone with over 1,000 dead because of the coronavirus pandemic, as Dr. Anthony Fauci warns that a second wave of the virus could be possible. However, Dr. David Agus says that current social distancing efforts are working, and claims the country will be prepared for any future outbreaks. He joins “CBS This Morning” to talk about how efforts to flatten the coronavirus curve are set to benefit the country in the long term.
