Democrats like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) are gravely uninterested in going along with President Donald Trump’s belligerence amidst the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak, which has claimed the lives of over 2,300 Americans and counting. This weekend, Pelosi insisted that Trump’s behavior, including weeks-long denials of the seriousness of the virus itself, is “deadly” — and prominent Trump shill Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) promptly had a white-hot meltdown during an appearance on Fox News with host Maria Bartiromo. Even in the midst of a global pandemic, Graham seems to be refusing to let up with his desperate allegiance to Trump.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says the President downplaying the severity of coronavirus is “deadly."

‘She’s blaming the president of the United States for people dying because of the way he’d led the country. That’s the most shameful, disgusting statement by any politician in modern history… It’s the most shameful, disgusting thing I’ve heard yet, and it needs to stop.’
Did Pelosi’s Coronavirus comments take the place of the Russia investigation? And every other criticism which Trump and his allies have promptly proclaimed is the worst thing to happen to any politician in the history of the U.S. or the history of the world or whatever else? The president’s allies have long stuck to resorting to this kind of bland, exaggerated name-calling instead of actually engaging with the issues that Trump’s critics have raised.
In this situation, it’s a clear line! Trump’s failures to secure large-scale testing and other support for the U.S. in the early days and weeks of the outbreak leads to people potentially dying who could have been saved otherwise, all because the virus spread farther than before.
Graham just kept up with his name-calling for his tirade against Pelosi. He insisted that “she’s the first politician to blame another politician for people dying” — which is just ridiculous. First of all, Pelosi called Trump’s behavior “deadly” — and ignoring the dangers of a deadly virus and thereby allowing it to spread is, in fact, deadly! That’s just a scientific fact at this point. And Graham kept up his raging freakout over this basic science anyway. Also: his idea that no politician has ever been blamed for people dying is stupidly short-sighted. Does he have any familiarity with history whatsoever? Even just recent U.S. history? Has he ever heard of something called the Iraq War? In fact, he adamantly supported it. Point being: he’s a raging ideologue.
Graham criticized Pelosi because she “wanted carbon neutrality for the airlines, she wanted $75 million of the Endowment for the Humanities and she wanted $25 million for the Kennedy Center” in recent Coronavirus relief legislation. To be clear, those sums are minuscule portions of the price tag of trillions of dollars that was on the recent virus relief funding — and also, Republicans also supported funding for places like the Kennedy Center, because there are people there who’ve been financially struggling too. Graham also claimed that Pelosi “wanted the entire new green deal in the package” — but that is, quite simply, a lie.
Amidst a pandemic that has claimed the lives of thousands of Americans and infected tens of thousands more, this nonsense is all that Graham’s got.
