Revenge is a dish that Donald Trump gorges on it seems. In the last moments of the week and under the cover of the Trump Pandemic, he fired Inspector General Michael Atkison for simply doing his job. POTUS knew what he was doing was beyond wrong, otherwise, he would have done it in broad daylight. Yet, General Atkison responded in a knock-me-over statement.

Trump said that he fired Atkinson for what he did in the Ukraine matter. The former IG accused Trump of abuse of power relating to the whistle-blower. The individual uncovered Trump’s role in trying to trade access and more in return for dirt on one of his presidential opponents.

House Intelligence Committee Chair Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA) tweeted about General Atkinson’s response:

‘A powerful message from Inspector Gen. Atkinson after his retaliatory firing: “The American people deserve an honest and effective government. They are counting on you to use authorized channels to bravely speak up… “Please do not allow recent events to silence your voices.”’

General Atkinson pointed to the whistle-blower law, indicating it protects both the person coming forward and the inspector general. He wrote in his statement, according to The New York Times:

‘The American people deserve an honest and effective government. They are counting on you to use authorized channels to bravely speak up — there is no disgrace for doing so. Please do not allow recent events to silence your voices.’

Firing the man was not enough for Trump’s huge hunger for revenge. He had to smear Atkinson’s reputation:

‘He did a terrible job, absolutely terrible,. He took a fake report and he brought it to Congress with an emergency, OK? Not a big Trump fan, that I can tell you.’

Trump admitted that he fired General Atkinson, because he was mad the man told Congress about the whistle-blower’s charge. In other words, he did his job. POTUS sounded like a spoiled fifth-grader when he said Atkinson did a “terrible job, absolutely terrible:”

‘He did a terrible job, absolutely terrible,. He took a fake report and he brought it to Congress with an emergency, OK? Not a big Trump fan, that I can tell you.’

The Democrats have called the firing corrupt, while Republicans have tried to be invisible. Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) has been a longtime advocate for whistle-blowers, so his silence was deafening.

The president has been on a revenge sandwich eating binge as he fires anyone who disagreed with him. Then, he tries to ruin them by making their life after Trump impossible with his career-killing comments.

The general is just one of the federal employees Trump has fired. He fired others who testified under Congressional subpoenaed during the inquiry phase of the Democrats’ investigation.

Trump told legislators that he had lost confidence in Atkinson:

‘It is hard not to think that the president’s loss of confidence in me derives from my having faithfully discharged my legal obligations as an independent and impartial inspector general, and from my commitment to continue to do so.’
