Vice President Mike Pence made a royal ass of himself during a recent visit to the Mayo Clinic to do a tour meant to be a positive photo-op for the nearly silent VP. The cameras followed Pence throughout the hospital, and very quickly, one thing because glaringly clear. Mike Pence was literally the only person in the place not wearing a face mask.
Pence was hit with backlash for the blunder almost instantly as angry Americans took to the internet to rant about the selfishness and flat-out ignorance that Pence displayed at the clinic.
Now, apparently, that is the spin the Pence camp is putting on the incident. Ignorance.
It’s not a hard one to imagine either, so no one was surprised when Second Lady Karen Pence went on Fox News to claim that her husband had no idea of the Mayo Clinic policy requiring he wear a mask.
Pence said this Thursday morning when Fox Host Ainsley Earhardt asked about the mishap:
“That’s a great question as our medical experts have told us wearing a masks prevents you from spreading the disease and knowing that he doesn’t have COVID-19, he didn’t wear one.”
Mrs. Pence continued:
“It was actually after he left Mayo Clinic that he found out that they had a policy of asking everyone to wear a mask. Someone has worked on this whole task force for over two months is not someone who would have done anything to offend anyone or scare anyone. I’m glad that you gave me the opportunity to talk about that.”
So he’s just too stupid to understand that the CDC’s nationwide recommendation for everyone (NOT JUST THE SICK) to wear PPE face masks? Because that happened weeks ago.

According to POLITICO however, the VP knew the rules because he was briefed before the tour:
A Mayo Clinic spokesperson told POLITICO that Pence and his team had been briefed about the mask policy prior to arriving on campus. “We made the Vice President and his staff aware of our policy regarding masking,” the spokesperson said, referring other questions to Pence’s office. Masks were made available to Pence on Tuesday, said two individuals.
People on Twitter who responded to the video were not really shocked at the idiocy of Karen Pence. You can see some of those reactions below:
