Thursday a lifelong top governmental vaccine specialist risked his career to become a whistleblower. He is one of the many heroes who have stepped up to the plate and did their patriotic duty. Rick Bright stood up in spite of the fear he might have felt. He has been on sick leave for the past three weeks with high blood pressure due to the stress.
The old wisdom goes something like this: Courage is not the absence of fear but doing what is right in spite of that fear. Bright knew exactly what was at stake, the thunderous and vindictive ire of Donald Trump.
NBC reports that one of its medical contributors, who went through the Ebola virus, contracted coronavirus. Dr. Joseph Fair was wearing gloves and a mask, but he thought he contracted it through his eyes on a surprisingly packed flight.
Bright testified that in spite of his many alerts about mask shortages up a number of chains of authority, nothing happened. He believes Trump’s inactions cost many, many lives. Still, the scientist said the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) “did not respond.” He warned them. The Washington Post reported he said:
‘[S]hortages of medical materials such as N95 masks (to protect medical personnel) and testing supplies,.’
Then, he reached out to a White House adviser. He was concerned that putting a happy face on the issue did not help the people. He was concerned that a vaccine would not be ready within 18 months as the White House promised.
He was unexpectedly ousted from his job and demoted to another job at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Bright was informed that he was removed for putting “science and safety over political expedience.”
Bright said that the White House missed “early warning signals,” according to CNN. He spoke of an email from Vice President of Prestige Ameritech Mike Bowen, a medical supply company. Bowen will also testify. His email noted that the nation’s supply of N95, a health professional-grade respirator mask, was in the tank. Bright testified:
‘He said, “We’re in deep shit. The world is.”‘
Then, Bright continued:
‘From that moment, I knew that we were going to have a crisis for health care workers because we were not taking action. We were already behind the ball.’
Trump spoke to reporters on the White House lawn even as the scientist was testifying. The president was ready to board his helicopter for a trip to tour “a medical production facility in Pennsylvania” with no mask. He characterized Bright as a “really unhappy disgruntled person.”

The HHS released a statement that it was reviewing Bright’s complaint:
‘[It] strongly disagrees with the allegations and characterizations made by Rick Bright.’
Then, the WaPo warned:
‘Speaking at an ordinary volume can produce small respiratory droplets that stay in the air for at least eight minutes, possibly explaining why so many clusters are found at conferences and other confined spaces.’
In addition, there is a disturbing after-affect that is deadly for children ages infant to 21-year-old. The Pediatric Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome attacks the circulator system and damages the child’s heart and other organs.
Britain has an antibody test for people after they beat the coronavirus that drug manufacturer Roche called “extremely reliable.”
