Eric Trump Faceplants During Live Interview After COVID-19 Conspiracy

Months into the Coronavirus pandemic, Eric Trump still seems convinced that the systematic reaction to the disease is some kind of plot to injure his dad’s public image. Tens of thousands of Americans are dead and the CDC estimates that the total Coronavirus death toll in the U.S. could soon hit 100,000 — and Eric suggests that those taking the gravity of the situation seriously are simply launching some kind of politically motivated campaign against his dad, the president. That commentary reveals a staggering level of self-centeredness and self-obsession. Even amidst a pandemic, the Trumps think it’s somehow all about them.

Eric claimed to Fox host Jeanine Pirro:

‘They think they are taking away Donald Trump’s greatest tool, which is being able to go into an arena and fill it with 50,000 people every single time. You watch, they’ll milk it every single day between now and November 3. And guess what, after November 3 coronavirus will magically all of a sudden go away and disappear and everybody will be able to reopen.’

To be clear: the suggestion that Coronavirus lockdowns are designed in order to keep Trump from being able to hold political rallies is delusional and has no relationship to reality. Tens of thousands of Americans are dead. Hundreds of thousands upon hundreds of thousands are infected with the Coronavirus. Country after country all around the world have imposed their own Coronavirus-related lockdown. And none of this is enough to move Eric Trump out of his delusional self-obsession where he’s imagining that the whole world, or something, is in on some kind of conspiracy against his good name. That’s just not true.

Still, adding that the media has supposedly functioned as the “propaganda arm” of the Democrats, Eric added:

‘They’re doing it for one reason: They want to hurt Trump. They tried to do it with the Russia thing, they tried to do it with the Ukraine scandal, they tried to do it with impeachment. Now they’re trying to do it with Coronavirus.’

Watch below:

That has no relationship to reality. As writer Michael Stern commented in response:

‘This is truly insanity. The president’s son is essentially saying Democrats have manufactured coronavirus to stop Trump from holding rallies. Insanity.’

MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle asked the pointed question:

‘If #COVID is such a “hoax”, invented to keep @realDonaldTrump from holding rallies…why wouldn’t @FoxNews have @JudgeJeanine & Eric Trump do this interview from their homes? Why not do a face-to-face interview in the studio?’

Eric’s comments mirror comments that his dad offered at a South Carolina rally in late February, where he claimed that the Coronavirus was Democrats’ “new hoax.” If the president had let up with his conviction that Coronavirus concern and coverage were a conspiracy against his public image even for a moment, then maybe he could have led preparations that would have helped keep the crisis from reaching its current huge scale. Instead, tens of thousands of Americans and dead, and Trump still seems convinced that he is doing a “great” job in responding to the pandemic.
