Donald Trump’s Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany will likely be around the White House for some time, because she really understands how to lay down the excessive fawning on her boss. She is right though, when she says that this president’s Bible photo-op will go down in history — just not in a good way.

People will remember POTUS’ Fascist turn as military police attacked peacefully protesting Americans with flashbang grenades, pepper balls, and rubber bullets. History will recall them beating journalists and pushing people away as they sat on horseback. Most of all, Americans will remember  McEnany’s boss holding up the Bible he does not read as a prop — upside-down — standing before a church he does not visit, St. John’sEpiscopal Church.

The press secretary defended the president’s use of force and militarization during her daily briefing, claiming he had to have a clear path to the church. When reporters asked McEnany why he had to use force, she replied that Trump’s photo op had been “a[n] historic moment.”

She said that “presidents and leaders across the world” had to show their citizens “a message of resilience and determination:”

‘This was a very important moment. I would note that through all of time, we’ve seen presidents and leaders across the world who have had leadership moments and very powerful symbols that were important for a nation to see at any given time, to show a message of resilience and determination.’

Then, EcEnany compared Trump to England’s famous Prime Minister Winston Churchhill, President George W. Bush, and President Jimmy Carter’s in their finest moments:

Like Churchill. We saw him inspecting the bombing damage. It sent a powerful message of leadership to the British people. And George W. Bush throwing out the ceremonial first pitch after 9/11 and Jimmy Carter putting on a sweater to encourage energy savings and George H.W. Bush signing the Americans with Disabilities Act planked by two disabled Americans.’
