Donald Trump has been attacking the media in more than one way. During the violent response to peaceful protesters in front of the White House, he placed his Attorney General William Barr in charge of the various members of the police and military. Under Barr’s instruction, they honed in on the journalists. One of the videos showed the forces beating an Australian cameraman.

In addition, the president’s campaign sued another member of the media that had taken a poll unfavorable to POTUS, CNN. Trump wanted to “suppress a poll” that showed the president losing to his opponent Joe Biden in November by 14 points.

CNN’s Brian Stelter interviewed the president’s campaign attorney Jenna Selzer. She said:

‘No pollster in the world would stand behind this as a legitimate poll, according to industry standards. So why would CNN? Why? What industry standards?’

Stelter defended the poll:

‘This poll is in line with other network polls. Pretty much every poll shows Trump losing to Biden.’

Ellis responded:

‘That’s not true. You polled adults, not registered voters, not likely voters, but just adults.’

Stelter explained that the network used a “normal polling procedure:”

‘The only reason CNN published this, it’s junk science. You know that. And you know that if you’re (sic) poll showed the inverse and showed Joe Biden 14 points behind, you wouldn’t have published this poll.’

Stelter began to disagree, but she would not be interrupted:

‘Let me finish!. Are you just going to interrupt me this whole time? Or can we actually have a reasonable dialog. This is why everyone calls you fake news. Because you finally bring me on to actually talk about things and then, yet, you just interrupt me and won’t let me make my point. Your comment about polls and industry standards was totally false. And it’s important to interrupt when you share fake information.’

Ellis responded:

‘You call yourself a journalist, And it’s your job to report the facts and then let the people decide. Your ratings are so bad and so in the tank because America knows that CNN publishes activist agenda against President Trump.’

He argued:

‘CNN is one of the highest rated channels on cable. If you think the ratings are so low — it’s untrue but it shouldn’t matter — why would you bother coming on?’

Ellis replied:

‘I think it’s important for your viewers — the few that there are — that they get the facts and the truth.’

The president’s attorney asked:

‘Why is it President Trump cares about ratings at a time like this?’

The host said:

‘I’m saying President Trump cares about facts and truth. And as a journalist, you should care about facts and truth. And to stand behind this poll is actually embarrassing for you. Because this poll is so far outside the margins and standards.’

Ellis could not let that go and put in the last word:

‘That’s not true.’

Trump’s aides told The New York Times that the CNN poll was just a “phony” “stunt:”

‘[CNN without evidence said Trump attempted to] stifle momentum and enthusiasm for the president and present a false view generally of the actual support across America for the president.’

The CNN’s general counsel David Vigilante turned down the Trump campaign ask:

‘To the extent we have received legal threats from political leaders in the past, they have typically come from countries like Venezuela or other regimes where there is little or no respect for a free and independent media. our letter is factually and legally baseless. It is yet another bad faith attempt by the campaign to threaten litigation to muzzle speech it does not want voters to read or hear.’

Chief Executive of the network One America News Robert Herring approached the White House. The newer network takes information from The Associated Presse and the Russian network RT, among others. Shortly thereafter, Herring tweeted it would be happy to publish a voter poll that would better please Trump:

‘@OANN will be releasing a poll concerning the 2020 presidential race. It looks as though it will be in favor of @realDonaldTrump.’
