Trump Accuses Black Protesters Of Treason During Crazed Friday Meltdown

President Donald Trump seems perpetually paranoid about the peaceful protesters who have recently taken to the streets all across the United States to make their voices heard against police brutality. This Thursday, he melted down on Twitter over some of the latest developments in the nationwide protest movement, accusing a Black Lives Matter leader of “treason” and complaining about plans to paint a street in New York City outside Trump Tower with the message “Black Lives Matter.” Trump ignorantly tried to claim that Black Lives Matter stands for a message of “killing police,” which is just ridiculous and not remotely reflective of the huge numbers of peaceful protesters who the president is just lying about.

It’s all in the service of his self-obsessed view of the world. He tweeted:

‘Told that @NYCMayor Bill de Blasio wants to paint the fabled & beautiful Fifth Avenue, right in front of Trump Tower/Tiffany, with a big yellow Black Lives Matter sign. “Pigs in a Blanket, Fry ‘Em Like Bacon”, referring to killing Police, is their chant. NYC Police are furious!’

The chant that Trump mentions was used five years ago by an isolated group of protesters in Minnesota. To suggest that it is reflective of the broader goals of the “Black Lives Matter” movement is absolutely ridiculous. It’s so ridiculous that the only real option here is that Trump is a bold-faced liar who supports his reality-disconnected claims with absolutely astounding, willful ignorance of basic reality.

Shortly before the above post, Trump shared on the platform:

‘Black Lives Matter leader states, “If U.S. doesn’t give us what we want, then we will burn down this system and replace it”. This is Treason, Sedition, Insurrection!’

Treason is an offense which is traditionally punished by death — and it’s an offense which Trump just recently accused Barack Obama himself of. Trump is implicitly calling for the execution of his political enemies.

The commentary that Trump is paraphrasing came from Greater New York Black Lives Matter’s president, Hank Newsome, who appeared recently on a Fox show, where he said that if “this country doesn’t give us what we want, then we will burn down this system and replace it,” adding that he “could be speaking figuratively” or “could be speaking literally,” calling it “a matter of interpretation.” It’s very important to note: just very recently, Trump shared a video of one of his own supporters (with a group called “Cowboys for Trump”) who insisted that the “only good Democrat is a dead Democrat.” In the video, the Trump supporter claims that they were, in fact, speaking metaphorically — and to begin with, their rhetoric is a lot more actually violent than an obviously fundamentally metaphorical discussion of “burning down the system.” What does “system” even mean? It’s a metaphor, and the difference between the Black Lives Matter leader and the Trump supporter is that one is black, and the black individual is the one who Trump insisted committed “treason.”
