Teachers Union Pulls Legal Power Move To Stop School Openings

Donald Trump wants the nation’s children in front of him to do battle in his race to win the presidency in November. He insisted that the country open up for business in spite of states not reaching their peak in the coronavirus pandemic. His false belief was that would jumpstart the economy. How did the work out in Florida, Texas, and Arizona? The number of cases surged. Are Americans really willing to sacrifice their children in the same way?

Florida has 360,386 total cases of COVID-19 and 6,000 deaths, thus far. For the third day, the state has reached 10,000 new cases every day. With the average deaths per thousand running at 3.5 percent, that means Floridians can expect between 300 to 350 people to die every day.

Trump appears to be wandering around in the White House from TV to TV with his phone handy to send out tweets and come up with hare-brained ideas. Inject disinfectants into sick people’s lungs. Insert light into people’s bodies — not exactly clear on how that would work. Send your precious daughters and sons to live in Petri dishes of the coronavirus.

If a teacher is in a room with 25 kids, she has a minimum of 86 percent chance of getting sick. The real numbers will probably be higher according to a recently retired professor in who worked in an Education Department where students learn how to become teachers.

The truth is that opening schools is Trump’s absolutely worst idea of all. Children can catch COVID-19 and die a very horrid death. Maybe, the president does not care, but everyone else should.

The Florida Education Association (FEA) is suing Florida in order to halt the state’s emergency order to open physical school classrooms a full five days a week beginning in August, The New York Times reported.

Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Department of Education released an emergency order. It mandated every public school open up in August, where teachers, staff members, and our precious children walk the plank into a sea where hungry COVID-19 will feast on their little bodies with no less ferociously than the Sandyhook shooter killed those children.

People have to tell these elected officials who clearly do not have a lick of sense: Enough.

DeSantis has been trying to please Donald Trump. He is willing to sacrifice the people with chronic conditions and those over 60. Even when he found out that younger people were dying in his flooded hospitals, he continued. Then, he showed he was willing to send children to their deaths.

Not all children will get sick, but they will bring the disease into their homes. When Trump says people just get the “sniffles,” he is lying. Even a so-called “mild” case is far from mild.  In bad cases, people’s temperatures spike and their lungs quit working.

“Mild” cases can come with severe body aches, jabbing stomach pain, exhaustion, and blurred vision. Unfortunately, this virus is most contagious before a person has any symptoms. Checking temperatures is a futile exercise, because not every person sick with the virus has a temperature. Not only that, experts also say that many who survive have acquired lifelong chronic conditions: scarring of the lungs, kidneys, and other organs.

Coronavirus is not a respiratory disease, even though it is spread via droplets and mini-droplets that land on handrails and doorknobs or are inhaled. COVID-19 is an inflammation of the circulatory system. Blood clots end up in the brain, in the heart, and throughout a person’s body.

After DeSantis issued his order, he finally decided to keep the buildings closed until the coronavirus is “well below 10 percent,” and to  “heed the advice of medical professionals.” Then, once that is reached, the state still has to provide school districts with the resources and support needed to adequately support until it is safe to return to school, according to the FEA lawsuitl

The FEA detailed what that meant:

  • ‘The ability to keep class sizes small enough for proper social distancing of 6 feet.
  • The ability to quickly check temperatures of all students and staff.
  • The ability to limit access to school campuses to only students and staff.
  • The ability to reduce the number of students on buses to allow for social
    distancing.
  • The ability to have touch-free hand sanitizer stations in every classroom and office as well as multiple stations in cafeterias and other large common areas, plus refills that are readily available.
  • The availability of plenty of soap and paper towels.
  • The ability to sanitize school buses after each route and entire schools every 2
    hours.
  • The ability to change lunch routines to allow for proper social distancing of 6 feet.
  • The ability to properly train all students and staff on ways to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.’
