The anti-Trump Republicans behind The Lincoln Project are among the many Americans who are fed up with Donald Trump’s endless belligerence. At a Tuesday press conference, Trump said that he “wish[ed]… well” to Ghislaine Maxwell, the woman who was recently arrested over her role in the sex crimes perpetrated by Jeffrey Epstein. On Wednesday, The Lincoln Project released a new video ad comparing Trump’s lax response to the mounting carnage inflicted by the Coronavirus pandemic to his eagerness to talk about the wellness that he wished to Ghislaine Maxwell.

It’s a devastating comparison — Trump seems more concerned with Maxwell’s public image than he is with the well over 140,000 Americans who’ve died due to the Coronavirus and the millions of Americans who’ve lost their jobs amidst the economic upheaval that has been exacerbated by the Trump administration’s own abject failures to control the pandemic. The Lincoln Project captioned their video:

‘Trump wishes the accused child sex trafficker well. The millions who are unemployed? It is what it is.’

“It is what it is” is a direct quote from a recent interview that the president did with Chris Wallace of Fox News. At the time, Trump was discussing the latest surge of the virus in the United States, which he sometimes seems more willing to delusionally blame China for than he is to actually take the necessary steps to stop the spread. Check out the video below:

The Lincoln Project is far from the only source for condemnation of the president’s comments about Maxwell. Originally, he said:

‘I just wish her well, frankly. I’ve met her numerous times over the years… I just wish her well, whatever it is.’

As reporter Betsy Woodruff Swan reported, one federal prosecutor had the following thoughts:

‘The president has nothing to say about a gun-toting madman who just murdered the son of a federal judge. But he takes time out of his press conference to send well wishes to a woman accused of trafficking teenager girls for sex. That’s gross on its face, and in the aftermath of the Stone pardon, it reeks of the president indicating to her that he might reward her if she’ll stay silent about whatever she knows about him.’

The gun violence case they reference unfolded just recently in New Jersey. The son of U.S. District Judge Esther Salas was murdered and her husband was injured. Check out Twitter’s response to The Lincoln Project’s new video below:
