Pelosi Owns Trump During ‘CBS Sunday’ Over Failed COVID-19 Response

The Trump administration has majorly failed in their response to the Coronavirus pandemic. Rather than imposing effective measures that got the virus under control at an early stage, the virus continues to spread rapidly across the country, and as of Sunday morning, the death toll stands at almost 150,000, according to one major tally. During an appearance on CBS’s Face The Nation this Sunday morning, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) sounded like she was among the millions of Americans who are very frustrated with the Trump administration’s behavior during the pandemic. She insisted that Trump “has made matters worse from the start,” and that has very serious consequences — lives are at stake.

Pelosi commented:

‘What we will not support is the following: what they’re saying to essential workers is, you have to go to work, because you’re essential. We’ve placed no responsibility on your employer to make that workplace safe. And if you get sick, you have no recourse, because we’ve given your employer protection. And if you don’t go to work because you’re afraid of being sick, and you have that job opportunity, you don’t get unemployment insurance. This is so unfair. Let’s just get to the heart of it — the point of all of this is, this president — I have new name for him, Mr. Make Matters Worse. He has made matters worse from the start. Delay, denial, ‘it’s a hoax,’ ‘it’ll go away magically,’ ‘it’s a miracle,’ and all the rest.’

As she noted, Republicans are currently clamoring to lower unemployment benefits that were instituted towards the start of the pandemic, although the economic calamity has definitely not abated. In the most recent full week for which data is available, over 1.4 million Americans applied for unemployment benefits across the country. That’s a staggering level of job loss, and it’s going to continue at a similarly terrible plateau as long as the country struggles to get the Coronavirus under control.

Over two months ago, the Democrat-led House passed the HEROES Act, which included an array of Coronavirus-connected relief funding. The Republican-led Senate has not taken up the legislation. On Sunday, Pelosi added:

‘The best way to send our children to school is to fund it! The ventilation, the spacing, the additional teachers, and to lower the infection rate in the community in which they exist. That takes money — that’s in the HEROES Act to do.’

Although the calamities associated with the pandemic have been continually piling up, Trump has kept up the pace of his congratulations for himself for a supposed job well done in responding to the crisis.

Recently, he tweeted:

‘You will never hear this on the Fake News concerning the China Virus, but by comparison to most other countries, who are suffering greatly, we are doing very well – and we have done things that few other countries could have done!’

That’s just delusional. Other countries have gotten the virus under control. Amidst Trump’s failed excuse for national leadership, the U.S. has not.
