Fauci Owns Trump In Response To Twitter Attack ‘I Don’t Tweet’

President Donald Trump has consistently tried to turn the Coronavirus pandemic into a political issue. In the early days of the crisis, he claimed that concern about the virus was a “hoax” and just meant to make him look bad, and more recently, he has claimed that those advocating for safety measures like restraint around opening businesses are, again, just trying to drag down his political prospects. Throughout the whole crisis, he’s ignored the relevant science at hand. This week, Trump retweeted a post claiming that Dr. Anthony Fauci of the National Institutes of Health had “misled the American public on many issues,” but during an appearance on Good Morning America on Tuesday, Fauci reassured observers that he’d never misled the public “under any circumstances.”

Trump can say no such thing! From his dubious claims about the anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine’s supposed effectiveness as a Coronavirus treatment to his evidence-less lies about how the virus might just disappear on its own, Trump has misled the public many, many times.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, after being asked how he could continue to do his job while facing political pressure from the president, Fauci said:

‘I don’t tweet. I don’t even read them so I don’t really want to go there. I just will continue to do my job no matter what comes out because I think it’s very important. We’re in the middle of a crisis with regard to an epidemic, a pandemic, this is what I do, this is what I’ve been trained for my entire professional life, and I’ll continue to do it.’

Asked to respond specifically to the baseless allegation that he has been “misleading” Americans, Fauci added:

‘I have not been misleading the American public under any circumstances.’

Fauci has been working in public health for decades. Meanwhile, Trump has basically no experience in the field whatsoever prior to his time in the White House, and while in the White House, he’s not exactly taken advantage of the resources at his disposal. He has not progressed and become some kind of competent leader who’s effectively handling the pandemic.

Recently, he claimed:

You will never hear this on the Fake News concerning the China Virus, but by comparison to most other countries, who are suffering greatly, we are doing very well – and we have done things that few other countries could have done!’

That’s a lie — and an outrageous one, at that. The U.S. has suffered a huge death toll and cases continue to rise. Trump has claimed that testing “creates cases” — which is an absolutely moronic thing to say. Testing does not create cases — the virus would still spread and, crucially, be sickening and killing people no matter whether the cases were confirmed via testing.

The Coronavirus pandemic is not a political foe that can be wished out of existence! It’s a crisis that needs immediate action — which is also somewhere that Senate Republicans have been failing. The Democrat-led House passed a Coronavirus-connected economic relief bill called the HEROES Act over two months ago. In all that time, the Republican-led Senate has not even taken up the legislation for debate,
