GOP Congressman Embarrasses Himself In Front Of America

The news about Louie Gohmert (R-TX) raced around the Capitol like a 66-year-old jogger with a burr in his pants. The lawmakers closest to Donald Trump wear their naked faces like a badge of honor. It is not clear what badge would be. It is possible that they view their actions as solidity with the president, false macho bravado, or just members of the Trump club. Then, this happened.

When lawmakers in the House and the Senate come to hearings or to the White White, they have a rapid-results pre-screening procedure for COVID-19. A Texas member of the Grand Old Party (GOP) trying to get onto Air Force One with POTUS tested positive Wednesday morning.

According to The POLITICO’s multiple sources, the Texas representative was already in the vulnerable age group, given that he is 66. Then, he tested positive.

Gohmert had been ready to fly with Donald Trump to Texas for fundraising events, and that is why he had to be tested. His reason for not wearing his mask? He said that he did not need to as long as he was being regularly tested for COVID-19.

Clearly, protecting others from his own germs never occurred to the eighth-term representative, or perhaps he just did not care. According to The POLITIC, Gohmert said:

“[I]f I get it, you’ll never see me without a mask.’

Both Senate Majority Leader “Moscow Mitch” McConnell (R-KY) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) rejected the White House’s offer of rapid testing on Capitol Hill. However at this point, both wear their masks at all times, unless they appear briefly on camera. McConnell has been dealing with a difficult reelection campaign where he is up against a very credible former military member woman Amy McGrath. No wonder he wanted to make himself as invisible as possible.

Tuesday the House Judiciary Committee heard from Attorney General William Barr on a number of issues the Democrats introduced. Gohmert attended, too. Most of the Republican committee members acted like highly disrespectful junior high boys.

The committee only allowed eight of its members to appear at the hearing at one time to protect against the coronavirus. The committee is quite large. In addition, the lawmakers were spaced as far apart as possible given the room’s size.

Shortly after the Judiciary Committee began, Chair Jerrold (Jerry) Nadler (D-NY) addressed the three Republican members when they removed their masks. Gohmert was not among them: Arizona Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Louisiana Mike Johnson (R-LA), and Ohio’s Jim Jordan (R-OH). Nadler chided the three:

‘I would remind Mr. Jordan, Mr. Biggs, and Mr. Johnson to stop violating the rules of the committee. To stop violating the safety of the members of the committee. To stop holding themselves out as not caring by refusing to wear their masks.’

They treated the reprimand and the hearing as a joke. The Republicans responded with giggles, smirks, and rude interruptions:

‘Is it permissible to drink a sip of coffee?’

Nadler responded to the questioner in all seriousness:

‘It is not permissible.’

Gohmert’s Chief of Staff Connie Hair declined to make a comment at this time.

Twitter world went nuts after Gohmert tested positive for the coronavirus. Check out what some of our favorites said:
