There are some things Donald Trump says that defy logic. Injecting disinfectants into a living human being will not cure COVID-19 and makes no sense at all. 150,000 Americans haven’t died from the virus just to make Trump look bad. And testing does not cause new cases, it just helps to identify who has the virus and what communities are at risk. The virus and hospitalizations and deaths would not slow down if testing was “slowed down” like Trump wants it to be.
While the United States has currently tested more people than any other country, our population is also much larger. In terms of tests per capita, the U.S. is 16th in terms of the percentage of its citizens tested. Peru actually leads in testing and by a much higher rate of  half their population while the U.S. has tested just seven percent.
More testing does not lead to more cases. They simply reveal who has the virus. Of course, those numbers make Trump look bad, so he wants more than anything to make it stop and even told a group of supporters that he’s asked to “slow the testing down.” The reason that COVID-19 hasn’t been properly addressed by the U.S. in comparison to any other country is not because we have great testing. It’s because we have a horrible and incompetent president.
