President Donald Trump has helped send his own re-election campaign into a downward spiral with his endless racist belligerence, which he’s continued to peddle well after winning the presidency. In a new ad, the political action committee known as MeidasTouch admonishes viewers to “Vote Out Racism” and presents a series of clips spotlighting Trump’s decades of racism. The examples range from Trump’s advocacy for the death penalty for the so-called Central Park Five — a group of mostly black teenagers who were accused of an assault that they did not commit — to his infamous support for the conspiracy theory that Barack Obama, the nation’s first black president, may not have been born in the United States.
The ad also spotlights examples like Trump’s incessant dismissal of the seriousness of the Coronavirus pandemic, which has hit black communities particularly hard, sometimes at a much higher rate than their white counterparts. Trump has also, the ad points out, earned the support of obvious racists like the KKK throughout his time in the public spotlight.

Trump has directly responded to people who have pointed out his racism in the past. When, in 2019, the House was set to vote on a resolution condemning the president for having demanded that four women of color in Congress should “go back” to where they came from, Trump self-confidently proclaimed on Twitter that he doesn’t have a “racist bone” in his body. He tweeted:
‘Those Tweets were NOT Racist. I don’t have a Racist bone in my body! The so-called vote to be taken is a Democrat con game. Republicans should not show “weakness” and fall into their trap.’

“Their trap”? Trump is the one who complained that Congresswomen “who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe” should “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came.” Three out of four of the Congresswomen he was referring to were born in the United States, and all four are, of course, American citizens. Trump just consistently peddles in racist antagonism.
