On Monday — which is the first day of the Democratic National Convention — the anti-Trump GOP group known as The Lincoln Project released a video spotlighting what they characterized as the strong personal character of presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden. The video spends most of its runtime focused on Biden, and, more specifically, it highlights his personal life, including his work to raise his two sons after his daughter and wife lost their lives in a car wreck. Joe, as the ad puts it, kept that sense of familial closeness throughout the ensuing decades, including when his son Beau passed away from brain cancer in 2015.

The video is a notably directly pro-Biden ad from The Lincoln Project, which has often focused more on simply hammering Trump over his failures in office. In the group’s new video, a narrator says:

‘Americans will choose between two types of men this November. We know the man Joe Biden is — he’s a man with character, compassion, and decency. It’s a choice to vote for a man with that kind of character or a man without one.’

As the group summarized in the video’s caption:

We have a choice this November. It’s a choice to vote for a man of character or a man without character. #AmericaOrTrump’

The video got about half a million views off one Twitter post alone within about two hours. Check it out below:

Americans are clearly latching onto messages like the Monday video from The Lincoln Project. Even with a new CNN poll included in which Biden leads by just 4 percent, as of Monday morning, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee has a lead of an average of 7.7 percent in national polls, according to RealClearPolitics.

Biden has maintained his strong lead following his selection of California Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate. Trump’s response to Harris’s selection has helped prove The Lincoln Project’s point that he has no strong character — he very quickly derided her as “nasty,” and he even seemed willing to entertain the idea that she might not be eligible to serve as vice president. She was born in the United States — any suggestion that she’s ineligible is just racism, plain and simple. (Harris’s parents were from Jamaica and India.)
