Trump Demands Boycott Of U.S. Company After Manager Bans MAGA Hat

President Donald Trump has a serious messiah complex. On Wednesday morning, after reports that Goodyear Tires had been prohibiting employees from wearing hats expressing their support for the Trump campaign, the president took to Twitter to call for a boycott of the company. To be clear: workplace uniforms are pretty standard operating procedure in businesses across the country. It’s not as though one can expect to walk into a grocery store and see the employees behind the deli counter wearing hats and buttons representing their favorite presidential candidate. Yet, Trump self-confidently decided that the basic Goodyear operating procedure was some kind of oh-so-nefarious conspiracy anyway.

He tweeted:

‘Don’t buy GOODYEAR TIRES – They announced a BAN ON MAGA HATS. Get better tires for far less! (This is what the Radical Left Democrats do. Two can play the same game, and we have to start playing it now!).’

Trump appears to be claiming that “Radical Left Democrats” announce planned boycotts of companies that don’t align with their political wishes. Trump seems to forget that it’s right-wingers who posted videos on social media of themselves literally burning Nike-branded apparel after football player Colin Kaepernick was featured in an ad for the company. Kaepernick, of course, was the first professional athlete to undertake the peaceful protest measure of taking a knee during the performance of the national anthem. The gesture is meant to draw attention to continued racial injustice in the United States.

Furthermore, Trump is — unsurprisingly — completely wrong in his assertion that Goodyear Tires is somehow conspiring against his campaign. Company executives “ask that [employees] refrain from workplace expressions, verbal or otherwise, in support of political campaigning for any candidate or political party as well as other similar forms of advocacy that fall outside the scope of equity issues,” company spokesperson Melissa Monaco told WIBW, a local news outlet in the Topeka, Kansas area, which is where news of the ban first emerged. Crucially — the company bans all political campaigning. In other words — it’s not some kind of anti-Trump conspiracy. Trump just sees villains everywhere, it seems.

On Wednesday morning, Trump also freaked out that House business relating to the Post Office was scheduled for “just before and during” the Republican National Convention (RNC). The RNC starts in four days. What does Trump want Dems to do — go back in time to hold the hearings? He sounds ridiculous.
