President Donald Trump and his political allies have been majorly threatening the integrity of the election heading into November, suggesting, for instance, that they may not accept the results. Polls suggest that Trump is heading into the election as the underdog — Biden leads Trump by an average of 8.8 percent in national polls as of Sunday morning, according to FiveThirtyEight — so the GOP might be trying to set up some kind of excuse for a loss. After all, they can shout, “It was rigged!” (It wasn’t.) During an appearance on CNN’s State of the Union this weekend, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) denounced Trump’s remarks as having “no association with fact, validity, or truth” and insisted that the American people must turn out to vote in order to counter his belligerence.
Asked if Democrats would accept the election results if Trump wins a second term, Pelosi said:
‘Of course, but that doesn’t mean that we will not shout out against his initiatives whether it’s to tie up the Postal Service so that we will not have the opportunity for people to vote by mail, not having to choose between their health and their vote. It doesn’t mean that we ignore the Russian interference into our election, and they try to cloak it by saying, well, we look at many countries — but the Russians, 24/7, are interfering into our election, the President welcomes it. So again, it isn’t a question of accepting the result. The question is making sure that the public knows that they must vote, they must have a plan to vote, they must vote early, because [the GOP’s] playbook is one that has all kinds of obstacles to participation in our country.’
Pelosi added that it’s “so sad to see Republicans marching to this drummer,” adding that “they’re complicit” in Trump’s “undermining the integrity of our election.” This weekend, the House passed the Delivering for America Act, which includes $25 billion in emergency funding for the Postal Service that would help them effectively handle mail-in ballots and which the agency’s own Board of Governors, all of whom were appointed by Trump, have requested — but it’s unclear that there’s any chance of the legislation making any inroads in the Senate. Republicans are complicit.
Meanwhile, Pelosi summarized:
‘The best thing all the time is to ignore what [Trump] has to say, because it has no association with fact, validity, or truth… he may have his bully pulpit, but we have the American people and will make sure they turn out to vote.’

Trump has kept up his election-related lies as recently as Sunday morning. He tweeted:
‘So now the Democrats are using Mail Drop Boxes, which are a voter security disaster. Among other things, they make it possible for a person to vote multiple times. Also, who controls them, are they placed in Republican or Democrat areas? They are not Covid sanitized. A big fraud!’

Ballot drop boxes — which Trump’s campaign has been challenging in a court case in Pennsylvania — are not a “voter security disaster,” and they do not make it possible for someone to vote multiple times. They just don’t. The same security and verification measures that are in places for other ballots are in place for those received through the boxes. Among the other nonsense, there’s no evidence that the boxes will spread Coronavirus, either.
The president has started his Sunday by resuming his work to delegitimize the election and scaring Americans into not voting.
He explained why, btw, in a March 30 Fox interview.
He said that if turnout increased, "you’d never have a Republican elected in this country again." https://t.co/jruA5Q1RHR
