Rather than hold Moscow Mitch McConnell or the Grim Reaper as he prefers responsible with a “What the hell, Grim, hold POTUS accountable!” Republican senators have meekly tucked their tails between their legs and quietly slinked home. The reaper has stood in front of the Senate door and barred all legislation passed in the House but a paltry few from getting a vote, well over 395 bills, The Newsweek reported. Since the Senate is not doing the people’s work, other groups have decided they must step up and do it for them.
Another white police officer shot a Black man, Jacob Blake of Kenosha WI, in the back, seven times — in front of his three young children. Blake is left paralyzed at this time.
People are asking “Who are we as a nation?” Are we willing to let the Trump White House spur home-grown terrorists hunting our neighbors, friends, and family? Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) who is running with Joe Biden (D) against Donald Trump (R) and Mike Pence (R) said, according to ABC News:
‘As Vice President Biden put it, the shots fired at Mr. Blake pierced the soul of our nation. It’s sickening to watch. It’s all too familiar. And it must end. Thankfully, he is alive today. But he is fighting for his life and he shouldn’t have to be.’
Sen. Kamala Harris: “We must always defend peaceful protests and peaceful protesters. We should not confuse them with those looting… Make no mistake: we will not let these vigilantes and extremists derail the path to justice”https://t.co/Vfu8dyjbmy pic.twitter.com/Qz9gw1NnmT

It didn’t have to be this way. Out of this, we have a chance to right these wrongs, to change, and put ourselves on a higher path forward. Many diverse groups can join together, from sports to colleges and beyond. We have a choice.
Unbeknownst to one another professional athletes and college students of all colors are linking arms and organizing in protest to say “enough.” According to The Scrollin.com:
‘[The NBA Bucks, major league hockey] several Major League Baseball games, and two-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka abruptly announced her withdrawal from the Western & Southern Open semi-finals, where she was due to play on Thursday.’
The boycotts are spreading like a balm to the wounded Black community. In addition, the nationally-ranked Christian college Wisconsin Lutheran College announced it rescinded Vice President Mike Pence’s invitation to speak at its commencement this week after his comments at the RNC convention-ish. Pence has already been replaced.
Pence said during his acceptance speech Wednesday:
‘Let me be clear: the violence must stop – whether in Minneapolis, Portland, or Kenosha. Too many heroes have died defending our freedoms to see Americans strike each other down. We will have law and order on the streets of this country for every American of every race and creed and color.’
The college serves about 1,200 graduate and undergraduate student with both on-line and on-campus learning:
‘The college, which prepares students for lives of Christian leadership, is recognized for its academic excellence and superior student experience.’
The college announced “after careful consideration of the escalating events in Kenosha,” it said the selection [of a commencement speaker could not be an endorsement of a political party and “cannot” be viewed as a political event:
‘We believe it is possible within our context to leave partisan politics at the door and to celebrate America, our freedoms, Christian servant leadership and our graduates’ immense accomplishment.’
The open letter to the school’s staff and faculty was signed by over 100 individuals and appeared on Medium.com:
‘The mere invitation of a Vice President of an incredibly divisive and controversial ticket to speak in a swing state months before an election is ignorant and deceptive. Speaking to young adults months before an election is a political move and not one that WLC can decide is apolitical.’
The alumni went so far as to express condolences to the college’s 2020 class.
‘Your commencement ceremony should not have been infected by toxic politics. You didn’t ask for this, and you should not have needed to ask for this not to happen. Controversial political figures need to stay out of our academic celebrations.’
Pence’s spokesperson Devin O’Malley said, according to The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
‘Vice President Pence understands and supports Wisconsin Lutheran College’s decision to prioritize the safety and well-being of their students, and wishes the students well as they celebrate the accomplishment of graduating from college and as they embark on their next journey.’
This makes Americans wonder why they have been paying GOP Senate salaries. Hopefully, voters will be able to fire these legislative GOP senators after nearly four years of inactivity.
