Democratic presidential pick Joe Biden is not hiding in his basement. He has never been hiding in his basement, according to any ordinary meaning of the phrase or idea. The fact that President Donald Trump and his allies keep claiming otherwise proves how pointlessly shallow that the Trump campaign for re-election really is. On Wednesday afternoon, Trump took to Twitter to claim that Joe Hiden’ — a ridiculous new nickname for the Democratic nominee — would wreck the U.S. economy. There is no evidence for this claim. Biden was in office as vice president for the entirety of the post-Great Recession economic recovery that occurred during the Obama Administration, in fact.
Trump tweeted — using emojis, for some reason:

Trump didn’t mention the fact that recent spikes in value at the stock market came after huge dips in value during the early parts of the Coronavirus pandemic. Also — the status of the stock market doesn’t even really have any big impact on the lives of large swathes of Americans. Millions of Americans have lost their jobs throughout the Coronavirus crisis — how’s a rising stock market going to help them, exactly?
Trump also tweeted about an incident in which protesters in Portland, Oregon, decided to “occupy” the apartment where the city’s Mayor Ted Wheeler lives. Trump claimed that Wheeler ‘just got harassed out of his own home in Portland by so-called “friendly protesters,”‘ adding that “Anarchists, Agitators and Looters treat him HORRIBLY, even though he is so nice and respectful to them.” Wheeler does not tolerate violent rioting, and neither does the Democratic Party, as a rule — Biden has offered specific, repeated denunciations of violence, in all its forms. Claims otherwise from Trump and his allies are lies.
