President Donald Trump is pulling out all the stops in his desperate attempt to secure re-election. Now, he has taken to Twitter with a self-congratulatory claim that he received “the highly honored Bay of Pigs Award for all I have done for our great Cuban Population” — but that’s not true, because the “Bay of Pigs Award” does not exist. In reality, Trump received an endorsement from the Bay of Pigs Veterans Association in 2016, before he could have even done anything for Cuban-Americans as president — since he was not inaugurated as president until the next year. He’s taking kernels of truth and mashing them up into self-aggrandizing nonsense. He’s an embarrassment.
He tweeted:

Trump didn’t even try to include any evidence for Biden’s “terribleness” towards Hispanics. Perhaps Trump just wants people to take his word for it, although he’s the guy who has lied thousands of times while in office. Although it’s true that Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders has endorsed Biden and been campaigning for him, to call him a “Castro lover” is brazen misinformation. Sanders has offered nominal praise for the education system of Castro-led Cuba. Acknowledging the basic reality that the education system may have been likable for some people is a far cry from Trump’s endless capitulation to present-day murderous dictators. Once, Trump said that he “fell in love” with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un. Fell in love!
As for the so-called “Bay of Pigs Award,” which does not exist, CNN’s Daniel Dale reported the following:
‘For those confused by Trump’s claim he got the “highly honored Bay of Pigs Award”: He got an endorsement in 2016 from the Bay of Pigs Veterans Association. It’s not an award. He has a long history of turning endorsements and other non-awards into awards.’
The thing is that it was, according to local news coverage, an unprecedented endorsement from the Bay of Pigs Veterans. So Trump could accurately boast about it. But he often seems to prefer wrongness to even impressive-sounding correctness – no truth too good not to embellish.
