Schiff Shames Trump For Calling RBG’s Final Words Fake News

President Donald Trump has little connection to reality at this point — he rattles off whatever nonsense comes to mind, and his loyal minions cling to it feverishly. On Monday, during yet another conversation with the hosts of Fox & Friends, Trump suggested that one of the reported last wishes of the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg might not have been her own wish after all. Shortly before her death, she reportedly told her granddaughter that she hoped her seat would not be filled until after the election. On Fox, Trump suggested that Democratic leaders might have made up the statement. House Intel Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) promptly rebuffed the president.

There is, of course, zero evidence for the president’s claim that Democratic leaders including Schiff may have made up Ginsburg’s wish. Trump lives in a self-imposed world of delusional nonsense, and he is fundamentally not a serious person — although he’s doing serious harm to the United States with his belligerence.

Schiff wrote on Twitter:

‘Mr. President, this is low. Even for you. No, I didn’t write Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s dying wish to a nation she served so well, and spent her whole life making a more perfect union. But I am going to fight like hell to make it come true. No confirmation before inauguration.’

Ordinarily, the House does not have a role in the process of confirming new members of the Supreme Court, but there are other things that, in theory, the House could do. For example, they could kickstart new impeachment proceedings against Trump or his lackey, Attorney General Bill Barr, who’s been seeming to get increasingly unhinged lately. Barr even claimed that restrictions imposed to stop the spread of the Coronavirus were the “greatest intrusion” on liberty since slavery. That’s simply ridiculous.

Meanwhile, in the Senate, options for responding to a rushed Ginsburg replacement include adding seats to the Supreme Court once Democrats get control of the Senate. Other steps, which could help keep Republicans from getting an easy path to future majority control of the Senate, could include adding D.C. and Puerto Rico as states, which could add four reliably Democratic Senate seats to the mix. People who live in these places are American citizens, and they deserve representation in the halls of government.
