Make no mistake: Donald Trump is doing everything in his considerable power as president to thwart the will of the American people in the 2020 presidential elections. Whether he’s afraid of the multiple criminal investigations against him in the southern district of New York, or he’s determined to keep raking in the cash as a benefit of his position in the White House, or he’s just drunk on power and wants to hold on to it, Trump is prepared to do anything he has to do to win, and he’s said so repeatedly throughout the election cycle.

On Wednesday, Trump’s talk of subverting the vote in 2020 raised eyebrows across the country, including those of FEC Commissioner Ellen Weintraub. Asked if he would commit to a peaceful transition of power should he lose the election in November, Trump hedged and then declared that everything would be fine…if we’d get rid of the voters’ ballots.
‘Well, we’re going to have to see what happens. You know that I’ve been complaining very strongly about the ballots, and the ballots are a disaster…We’ll want to have — get rid of the ballots and you’ll have a very — we’ll have a very peaceful — there won’t be a transfer, frankly. There’ll be a continuation.’
Weintraub, the woman in charge of ensuring that ballots are counted fairly and that the will of the American people is carried out in November, was compelled to respond to that alarming statement, reminding Trump what elections in America are all about.

The fact that anyone would have to explain this to the current president of the United States is more than a little frightening.
