The breaking news came tumbling out of the White House. First, it was Donald Trump’s trusted adviser Hope Hicks who tested positive with COVID-19. Then, it was the president and first lady testing positive. At that point, the reality that the entire West Wing and top Republicans in the Senate and the House were exposed hit. None of them wore masks or socially distanced. Now, this.
The Republican National Committee (RNC) Chair Ronna McDaniel has also tested positive for the coronavirus, according to The New York Times White House Correspondent Maggie Haberman. Wednesday, McDaniel received her test results. She was with the president last Friday, but at this point, we do not know how Trump and Hicks were exposed. Haberman tweeted:
‘BREAKING – Ronna McDaniel, the RNC chairwoman, tested positive for the coronavirus on Wednesday, multiple sources say. She has mild symptoms. She was last with POTUS last Friday and has been in Michigan since then.’
Hicks felt ill Wednesday, and the president was apparently lethargic shortly thereafter. It has not been clear whether Hicks exposed him, or someone else exposed both of them. The news out of the White House has been that Trump has been experiencing mind symptoms. That line seemed to be the one that the Republicans have decided to take. Time will tell whether it is accurate.
