‘The Lincoln Project’ Smokes Trump With Closing Statement To Voters

Where did absentee ballots begin? Donald Trump has announced that he will declare himself king, ahem, president of these United States on Tuesday if the election looks close or he is temporarily ahead. Several big problems with that and what do they have to do with Star Wars‘ actor Mark Hamill?

Number one, of course, Trump cannot declare himself the winner. The US elections do not work that way. The people basically decide who will take the 270 Electoral College votes for a win and for the popular vote. President Barack Obama has been on the campaign trail urging everyone to get out and vote Tuesday. We need a major win on November 3 to ensure that there is no room for this president to falsely declare himself the winner.

The second big problem with Trump’s decision is that there are tons of absentee ballots legally ready to be counted. Not all of them will arrive on Tuesday. Take the military absentee votes, for example. They legally must be counted.

Hamill narrated the latest ad by The Lincoln Project Absentee. In it, he explains the history of the military absentee ballots. He describes the history of absentee voting and takes us to the third big problem with Trump’s machinations: Tyranny, which is cruel and oppressive government.

Hamill describes how the Civil War was the start of absentee voting. He said:

‘Now, more than 150 years later, tyranny is looking for a new foothold. If he gets his way, many who cast absentee ballots will not have their vote counted. This will deny thousands of troops serving overseas of their most sacred right, stripping the men and women in our military the very freedoms they’ve served and sacrificed to defend. It cannot be allowed to happen.’

Co-founder of The Lincoln Project Reed Galen released a statement that read:

‘There is absolutely no reason for the Trump campaign to sow doubt and confusion over the process except to discourage people from voting and votes from being counted. He’s doing this because the only way he can win is by cheating. We won’t allow it.’

This president has been spreading an especially dirty lie all over his rallies and the airwaves claiming that mail-in votes invite massive voter fraud. He knows that this is wrong, because he brought in Kris Kobach, the prince of restrictive voting legislation, according to The Guardian. After he came to town, Dodge City, Kansas decided to move the voting location outside of town, completely inaccessible to many voters. Kobach tried for a year to rout out voter fraud to no avail. He quietly packed his bags and left by the back door.

One of the main reasons that people have been taking advantage of the absentee ballots is the deadly coronavirus pandemic. Over 97 million voters have turned their ballots in as the COVID-19 virus affected at least 9.33 million Americans and stole away 231,427 of our loved ones. According to the World Health Organization, America had 80,379 new cases just today.

Trump said on Sunday that the Supreme Court’s decision allowing Pennsylvania to count ballots as late as Friday was “terrible.”

Trump continued:

‘I think it’s a terrible thing when people or states are allowed to tabulate ballots for a long period of time after the election is over. I think it’s terrible when we can’t know the results of an election the night of the election in a modern-day age of computers.’

He was wrong. Americans have fought, bled, and died for their right to vote in person or by absentee ballot. That is not Trump’s to take away.
