What is it with these cowardly Republican senators? What good are they if they are even too afraid to step up and say to a longtime colleague, at least for some, President-Elect Joe BidenĀ  “Congratulations.” They certainly did not have their constituents’ best interests in mind.

Senate Leader for the time being Moscow Mitch McConnell (R-KY) the self-described “grim reaper” of House legislation, did not even acknowledge Biden or Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris. Instead, McConnell droned on, according to Reuters:

‘President Trump is 100 percent within his rights to look into allegations of irregularities and weigh his legal options.’

Senators Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and presidential candidate in another election Mitt Romney (R-UT) offered their congratulations first.

Two other Republican Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Ben Sasse (R-NB), congratulated Biden. Collins stressed how important this transition period was. She said in a statement it “ensures that the president-elect and Harris are ready to govern on Jan. 20:”

‘He loves this country, and I wish him every success.’

Collins won her reelection bid last week. As is usual, she waffled when it came to Trump being given the “opportunity to challenge the results of Tuesdayā€™s election, however.”

Trump refuses to give a concession speech. He and his personal attorney and fixer Rudy Guiliani have been papering the country with frivolous lawsuits claiming electoral theft and corruption sans evidence.

Sasse, who has been a thorn in Trump’s side offered his congratulations via the Omaha News-Herald:

‘Today in our house we pray for both President Trump and President-Elect Biden, that both would be wise in the execution of their respective duties during this important time in our nation.’

Sasse continued:

‘Despite the policy differences many of us will have with the incoming administration, every Americanā€™s civic responsibilities are the same: root for every presidentā€™s success, work together where we can, and debate passionately and respectfully.’

Contrarians Senators Linsey Graham (R-SC) and Ted Cruz (R-TX) jumped on the pro-Trump bandwagon, as usual. On Fox News Sunday, House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy said:

‘[E]very legal challenge should be heard [before Americans see ā€œwho won the race.’

NBC reported Collins said:

‘I know that many are eager to have certainty right now. While we have a clear direction, we should continue to respect that process. I urge people to be patient. The process has not failed our country in more than 200 years, and it is not going to fail our country this year.’

Former President George W. Bush congratulated the President-Elect on Sunday:

‘The American people can have confidence that this election was fundamentally fair, its integrity will be upheld, and its outcome is clear.’

Collins continued, acknowledging that Trump’s doubted the outcome of the election:

‘[He] should be afforded the opportunity [to challenge any results.]’

Collins indicated that she did not vote for Trump in the 2016 presidential election. She would not say this time:

‘She did not vote for Trump in 2016, writing in another Republican, but would not say during her re-election campaign whether she had voted for the president this time.’
