The top infectious disease expert in the US and world-renowned Dr. Faudi is operating on the knife’s edge between an erratic infantile Donald Trump and his duty to inform the public about the coronavirus pandemic. As POTUS lies back, the virus moves onward jumping from person to person ever hungry for more hosts.  It is attacking 184,000 Americans every day, a number that is growing far greater than the day before. So far, 246,210 have died, and 70,000 are so sick they are in the hospital.

Dr. Fauci has worked for six presidents, but he has never encountered an experience like that surrounding Donald Trump. The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID) director appeared on CNN’s State of the Union hosted by Jake Tapper Sunday morning:

‘[A] nationwide policy on masks and social distancing is crucial to mitigating the spread of Covid-19 after the US recorded its highest single-day total 184,000 new Covid-19 cases last week.’

Fauci explained:

‘”It would be better” if government health officials could start working with President-elect Joe Biden’s transition team, underscoring the importance of a smooth transition process as the country grapples with the worsening coronavirus pandemic.’

The NIAID director noted that the transition process is “like passing a baton in a race” according to The Axios:

‘You don’t want to stop and then give it to somebody. You want to just essentially keep going and that’s what transition is so it certainly would make things more smoothly if we could do that.’

When Tapper queried Fauci about whether he would like to start working with Biden coronavirus team, he commented:

‘Of course, that’s obvious. Of course it would be better if we could start working with them.’

Michael Osterholm Director of The Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota is on the president’s Transition COVID-19 Advisory Board. He said:

‘These numbers are going way up…we are in the most dangerous period since 1918…

‘Don’t share the air.’

President-elect Joe Biden’s Chief of Staff Ron Klain also appeared on NBC’s Meet the Press with Chuck Todd. He said General Services Administration Administrator (GSA) Emily Murphy’s ascertainment is the key to the lock that would open the transition door to the Biden-Harris administration.  In other words, Murphy has not signed papers declaring that Biden is the winner. By not doing this,  the president-elect’s agency review teams cannot access the information they need.

Klain said that there is great urgency:

‘We need to be talking to them as soon as possible…We need urgent bipartisan action [with funding].’

The NIAID handles these massive efforts:

  • Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS).
  • Asthma and Allergic Diseases.
  • Radiation and Nuclear Countermeasures.
  • Biodefense and Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases.
  • Enteric Diseases.
  • Fundamental Immunology.
  • Transplantation.
  • Immune-Mediated Diseases.

  • Malaria and Other Tropical Diseases.
  • Influenza.
  • Genomics and Advanced Technologies.
  • Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs).
  • Vaccine Development.
  • Adjuvant Discovery and Development.
  • Drug Research and Development.
  • Antimicrobial Resistance.
  • Minority and Women’s Health.

There are two areas that deal with viruses. The first is, according to the NIAID, Fundamental Immunology:

‘Through both a robust intramural program and investigator-initiated grants and solicited research programs, NIAID supports a strong program to understand basic immune mechanisms, conduct immune profiling, or identify/characterize novel immune cell subsets, pathways, phenomenon, or mechanisms. Examples of NIAID-supported programs include the Human Immunology Profiling Consortium, the Immune Epitope Database, the Immune Mechanisms of Virus Control Program, and Modeling Immunity for Biodefense. NIAID-supported research has yielded a wealth of new information leading to extraordinary grow.’

The second area is housed in Fundamental Immunology:

‘Through both a robust intramural program and investigator-initiated grants and solicited research programs, NIAID supports a strong program to understand basic immune mechanisms, conduct immune profiling, or identify/characterize novel immune cell subsets, pathways, phenomenon, or mechanisms. Examples of NIAID-supported programs include the Human Immunology Profiling Consortium, the Immune Epitope Database, the Immune Mechanisms of Virus Control Program, and Modeling Immunity for Biodefense. NIAID-supported research has yielded a wealth of new information leading to extraordinary growth in the conceptual understanding of the immune system.’
