Pennsylvania Responds To Trump’s New Appeal With Stern Rebuke

Pennsylvania authorities sound totally fed up with the antics of the Trump campaign’s legal team. In Pennsylvania, the campaign has been pushing a lawsuit in which they sought to block the certification of the state’s election results, and after an earlier dismissal of their claims from federal Judge Matthew Brann, the Trump campaign has appealed to the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. In a new response to the Trump team’s appeal, the legal team for Pennsylvania authorities insists that it’s “beyond time for this baseless litigation to come to an end.”

Trump and his allies have made bombastic claims about supposed voter fraud that supposedly plagued the election. In court cases across the country, the president’s allies have utterly failed to prove their claims of some kind of systematic fraud. On at least two occasions — in cases in Arizona and Pennsylvania — Trump-allied lawyers admitted that they weren’t even alleging any specific instances of fraud at all. No matter his bellicose, long-winded ranting about supposed nationwide fraud, Rudy Giuliani himself, who recently joined the Trump campaign’s legal team in the Pennsylvania case at issue, admitted at one point that the challenge was “not a fraud case.”

Overall, the Trump campaign has made significant revisions and attempted revisions to their Pennsylvania court case at issue here, and in their new response to the Trump team’s appeal to the Third Circuit, the legal team for Pennsylvania authorities shreds the Trump team’s dubious antics. The state’s legal team characterizes the Trump team’s proposed new complaint as “Frankenstein’s Monster’s Monster, randomly re-cobbled together, even more illogical and haphazard than the first.” The Trump campaign appears to be specifically requesting permission to file a new, revised complaint with the court in their ongoing case — although the state notes that their previously stated underlying request is moot, since they sought to block the certification of Pennsylvania’s election results — which are now certified.

This week, the federal General Services Administration finally officially certified Joe Biden as the president-elect, which allowed the Biden transition team to access federal resources. Trump, however, tried to downplay this development — he posted the question on Twitter: “What does GSA being allowed to preliminarily work with the Dems have to do with continuing to pursue our various cases on what will go down as the most corrupt election in American political history?” There’s simply no meaningful evidence for the president’s claims of paradigm-shattering corruption — and the GSA’s move is obviously relevant because it clears the way for Joe Biden to prepare to become president.
