Schiff Trashes ‘Crooked’ Trump For Overwhelming Corruption

For years, President Donald Trump has rhetorically sparred with House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), who has helped helm investigations into the Trump team’s corruption. Now, Schiff is set to continue his service in government while Trump makes his exit from the White House, whether he likes it or not, once Joe Biden is inaugurated as the next president in January. On Wednesday, Schiff issued a public condemnation of Trump after the outgoing president issued a pardon for his longtime ally Michael Flynn, who had previously pleaded guilty to lying to authorities about his communications with a Russian official.

Schiff posted the following message:

‘Donald Trump has repeatedly abused the pardon power to reward friends and protect those who covered up for him. This time he pardons Michael Flynn, who lied to hide his dealings with the Russians. It’s no surprise that Trump would go out as he came in — Crooked to the end.’

Earlier this year, Flynn had moved to withdraw his guilty plea, and months later, the Justice Department (as led by the Trump-appointed Attorney General Bill Barr) moved to drop the federal government’s criminal case against Flynn altogether. Federal Judge Emmet Sullivan, who was handling Flynn’s case, did not immediately accept the Justice Department’s withdrawal of their case, sparking continued legal wrangling over the question of whether Sullivan would drop the case. Amidst the proceedings, Sullivan appointed former federal judge John Gleeson to argue for the side against the Trump administration’s attempt to drop the case. Referring to the Justice Department’s motion to drop their case, Gleeson insisted to Sullivan that there is “clear evidence that this motion reflects a corrupt and politically motivated favor unworthy of our justice system.” Those apparent favors are now continuing.

Trump posted a glib announcement of his Flynn pardon on Wednesday. His message read as follows:

‘It is my Great Honor to announce that General Michael T. Flynn has been granted a Full Pardon. Congratulations to @GenFlynn and his wonderful family, I know you will now have a truly fantastic Thanksgiving!’

Flynn is one of a sizable number of Trump associates who have faced criminal proceedings.
