Originally, the Republican Party was all about “state’s rights.” When the issue was desegregating schools, conservatives demanded the right to keep kids segregated according to what people in the state wanted. More recently, during the fight for same-sex marriage legalization, states wanted the right to ban it according to the wishes of the people of their state, because they believed those states had the right to pass their own laws.
Last night, the @NYYRC allegedly snuck into Jersey City to hold a “gala fundraiser” – ignoring our social distancing and mask rules.
It is beyond the pale that anyone would willingly endanger people in another state.

These days, Republicans not only don’t seem to believe that governors should have the right to determine what’s best for their constituents, they just refuse to follow the laws passed by Democratic governors. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) participated in a secret fundraiser gathering in New Jersey, violating the state’s restrictions on public gatherings. Gov. Phil Murphy (D-NJ) said on Friday that he’d rather Gaetz never come back to his state.

The COVID infection rate is at an all-time high, while hospital bed capacity is at an all-time low. Gaetz, who once wore a gas mask on the floor of Congress to mock COVID restrictions, which in turn mocked every family who had lost a loved one to the virus. No wonder no one wants him around.
