What has the Republican Party become? The more traditional Republicans, who ranged from conservative to liberal have edged closer and closer to the cliff of extinction. It all began during the President Reagan era. Then, the Tea Party ultra-conservatives jumped onto the heavy end of the teeter-totter. They catapulted more traditional Republicans’ away, but the real Republicans’ demise took on warp speed when the Party of Donald Trump took hold. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) led the latest Trump charge.
He is the guy who fueled the lawsuit to overturn President-elect Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential win with an over eight million voters’ win. The plan was to toss out all of the votes in critical swing-state counties. Never mind that there were Republican and Democratic voters.
Ultimately, over half of the Republicans in the House of Representatives joined him, after Trump said he would stand at the end of the line with a checklist to mark his supporters and his new enemies. A flurry of Republican state attorneys general joined in, but the Supreme Court turned Paxton and Trump down flat. Now, Paxton has his “Plan B,”
Paxton appeared on Fox Business Sunday morning. Host Maria Bartiromo asked him whether he had a “Plan B” attack to contest the election results. The wayward AG said:
‘Going forward, I think the Trump campaign is taking our arguments that we tried to get in front of the U.S. Supreme Court, they are now going to take those, I think, state by state. Because I think they are legitimately good constitutional arguments that don’t depend on actually proving every little instance of fraud.’
Pundits posited that Paxton, whom Trump recently invited to the White House, may have been seeking a way to encourage a Trump pardon.
Texas KVUE reported:
‘Amid a national discussion and debate on whether Paxton is trying to get a presidential pardon in this investigation against him, others say this is more likely an attempt to possibly change the focus away from the criminal investigation and place it somewhere else.’
