Outgoing President Donald Trump sounds profoundly ignorant. He refuses to stop pushing thoroughly unhinged lies about the recently concluded presidential election, which he conclusively and unequivocally lost to President-elect Joe Biden. In a new lengthy video message that he taped from the White House, Trump lays out some of the supposed evidence of the imaginary fraud that he alleges plagued the election, and this so-called evidence is laughably ridiculous on its face. For instance, he yet again mentions so-called ballot “dumps” that swung the election, insinuating that post-Election Day shifts in reported results are automatically suspicious on account of their timing — but results shifted because authorities were tabulating ballots. Counting votes takes time. This concept isn’t complicated.

Seriously — how ignorant does someone have to be to point to counting as supposed evidence of imaginary fraud? Throughout modern American history, authorities have pretty much always taken a significant period of time after elections to finalize and certify results. There was no nationwide conspiracy among swing state election officials to rig the election against Trump. Reality simply turned against him, and he’s freaking out.

As for the pro-Biden lean of some of the mail-in ballot results, which authorities sometimes tabulated after Election Day results, Donald Trump himself spent months ranting and raving against mail-in voting. His supporters were listening. This concept is not complicated. Trump commented deceptively as follows:

‘This year, using the virus as a pretext, Democrat officials in the key swing states illegally violated their own state laws in order to enable, encourage, and facilitate fraud on a scale never before seen in the history of our country. The truth is — we won the election by a landslide. We won it big… In the middle of the night, a series of massive and statistically inconceivable vote dumps overturned the result in state after state.’

He is simply completely wrong. No election officials “encouraged fraud,” and no officials anywhere in the country have come up with any legitimate evidence that would support the president’s deluded idea that he won the election, let alone won the election “by a landslide.” Discussing Biden’s level of support above Obama’s popular vote totals, Trump insisted: “It is historically, mathematically, politically, and logically impossible. It did not happen. He did not win. We won by a landslide,” which is just delusional. About eight years have passed since Obama’s last election — and the American population has grown! Like the fact that counting ballots takes time, this concept of population growth isn’t complicated, and neither is the concept of this year’s high voter turnout thanks to the extra attention on the election.
