Overnight on New Year’s Eve, a vandal or vandals apparently targeted the home of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) in San Francisco, California. The perpetrator — or perpetrators — of the vandalism left graffiti all over the garage door, an apparent pig’s head on the driveway, and what appeared to be red paint or some kind of fake blood around the area. The graffiti included “Cancel Rent!” and “We Want Everything!” alongside two depictions of an “A” within a fully enclosed circle, which is a common symbol for anarchism. It’s unclear if police have any leads on who’s responsible for the incident.
A Twitter user going by Sam Houston — which is the name of a historical figure who helped lead the Texas Revolution and eventually represented the state in the U.S. Senate once it joined up with the United States — posted an image of the scene, claiming that local police officers were “attempting to stop photos of” it. “Houston” also said that the city was “called to clean up at 3am.” Check out the account’s image of the vandalism targeting Pelosi below:
A local CBS affiliate reported on Friday that “[calls] to the San Francisco Police Department’s Norther Station for information on the incident were referred to the department’s community engagement office.” Recently, Pelosi helped lead the passage in the House of standalone legislation that would provide $2,000 relief checks to many Americans in place of the currently planned $600 checks, which some — including the president himself — have said are not enough for struggling Americans. The GOP-led Senate hasn’t moved on the House’s relief legislation, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has indicated that he’s not interested in rushing to consider the measure.
Although the graffiti may have been the work of someone affiliated with left-wing political movements, President Trump has repeatedly targeted Pelosi, alongside other prominent Democrats, for feverish criticism. He’s insisted on publicly referring to the Speaker as “Crazy Nancy.” This January, she will be continuing her time in government in service to the American people, while Trump, no matter his frenzied complaints, will be leaving.
