The man who stares at his boss as if he was a starstruck lover Vice President Mike Pence cannot make up his mind on which side of the fence to sit. He asks a judge to dismiss a case that, if won, would give him the power to overturn the 2020 election. Then, he decides to move to the other side.
Apparently, the VP “welcomes” Republican lawmakers who “raise objections” during the Congress’ January 6 effort to certify the Electoral vote.
Chief of Staff for Pence Marc Short released a statement to The Hill. It read:
‘Vice President Pence shares the concerns of millions of Americans about voter fraud and irregularities in the last election. The Vice President welcomes the efforts of members of the House and Senate to use the authority they have under the law to raise objections and bring forward evidence before the Congress and the American people on January 6th.’
Thus far, Pence has been able to avoid saying the presidential election was “fraudulent.” Instead, he urged all “legal votes” to count. But he certainly has not discouraged Trump or the president’s backers from challenging or overturning the citizens’ vote.
When the Senate comes together on January 6, Pence will preside over the meeting. However, his role is basically ceremonial.
Texan lawmaker Louie Gohmert (R-TX) filed a lawsuit trying to give Pence the authority to hand the election to Donald Trump. However, the case was dismissed for a lack of standing.
There were 140 Republican members of the House of Representatives who challenged President-elect Joe Biden’s win. That number continued to grow as new incoming representatives came on board.
Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) started the movement and nearly another dozen members of the Senate have decided to crawl onto Hawley’s platform. It continued to be a losing proposition, because Donald Trump simply lost and is a sore loser.
Former Attorney General William Barr, probably the most pro-Trump staff member, confirmed there was no evidence of widespread fraud.
