Loews Hotels has cancelled plans to host a fundraiser for Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) at a central Florida property as outrage builds over the Senator’s role in inciting last week’s deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol building. Hawley was the first Senator to publicly state that he would object to the certification of some of the electoral votes for President-elect Joe Biden, thereby helping seriously spread the nonsensical claim that the outcome of the recent presidential election is dubious. In reality, no court anywhere in the country has ever, at any point, accepted the claim from Trump and his allies that the election was rigged.
Loews issued the following statement:
‘We are horrified and opposed to the events at the Capitol and all who supported and incited the actions. In light of those events and for the safety of our guests and team members, we have informed the host of the Feb. fundraiser that it will no longer be held at Loews Hotels.’

The Hawley fundraiser had been scheduled for February. In a similar move, Simon & Schuster announced recently that it would no longer be publishing a forthcoming book from Hawley, which the Senator, predictably, complained was a “direct assault on the First Amendment.”
If Hawley wished to do so, he could post the entirety of his forthcoming book to his Twitter account, and he would probably get plenty of attention! Simon & Schuster has not curtailed Hawley’s ability to be substantively heard. What the publisher has done, however, is thwarted Hawley’s ability to make money off the now-cancelled book deal, and Hawley is masking likely concern for the impact on his grifting operation with these nonsensical, bellicose claims about the First Amendment. There’s no nationwide conspiracy to silence Josh Hawley — private companies in the marketplace that he claims to support just don’t want to involve their business with his vitriol!
There has never, at any point, been any legitimate evidence for the claim that the presidential election was rigged. Hawley insisted in an op-ed that he was merely sticking up for Missouri residents who were concerned about the integrity of the election by bringing his objection — but if his priorities rested somewhere other than political showmanship and anti-democratic stunts, then he could have brought helpful information to these Missouri residents about the security of the election. Instead, he gave a national spotlight to the lies.
