Donald Trump began making noise about someone naming an airport after him shortly before he left office, but so far there has been no one to step up and back his cause. In Scotland, incoming President Joe Biden didn’t even have to ask.

When Trump visits his golf properties in Scotland, where absolutely no one really wants him, he lands at Glasgow Prestwick Airport. Very soon, however, he may be landing at Biden International Airport if petition-signers in the area get their wish.

According to Newsweek:

‘Trump is the owner of both the Trump Turnberry golf course and Trump International Golf Links Aberdeen in Scotland. Rumors that Trump would visit Turnberry after leaving the White House came after U.S. planes were allegedly spotted on surveillance missions around the Turnberry resort. Although Trump is expected to go to Florida before Biden is inaugurated on Wednesday, the brewing company’s petition to rename the airport was still visible online on Tuesday.’

The online petition has over 4,500 signers so far, with more racking up daily. Although Trump headed to Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach County, Florida the morning of Biden’s inauguration, people in the area of his Scottish golf resort expect that he’ll attempt to fly there before the month’s end.

‘”Donald Trump is scheduled to arrive in Scotland later this week,” the petition read. “He always flies into Glasgow Prestwick Airport. We believe this airport should be renamed ‘Joe Biden International.'”‘

Trump was banned from traveling to the country during the COVID-19 lockdowns, and the Scottish First Minister announced that the American President would not be treated any differently than anyone else.

‘First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon told reporters in January that Trump would be prohibited from visiting his golf courses while the country remained in COVID-19 lockdown.

‘”We are not allowing people to come in to Scotland without an essential purpose right now and that would apply to him, just as it applies to anybody else,” Sturgeon said. “Coming to play golf is not what I would consider to be an essential purpose.”‘
