Removal From Committee Assignments For Rep. Marjorie Greene Called For

Amidst steep criticism of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), a controversial first-term Congresswoman, the Human Rights Campaign has called for her immediate removal from current committee assignments in Congress “at the very least.”

In a galling move, House Republican leaders recently placed Greene on the House Education and Labor Committee, despite the fact that Greene previously agreed with conspiracy theories about the reality of the 2018 Parkland shooting. In 2018, in response to an unhinged Facebook comment calling the Parkland incident a “false flag planned shooting,” Greene wrote “Exactly!” In a later instance, in response to a Facebook commenter who wrote that “none of the School shootings were real or done by the ones who were supposedly arrested for them,” Greene wrote, “That’s all true.”

Human Rights Campaign President Alphonso David commented, in part, as follows:

‘The news that Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene openly endorsed executing public officials and harassed a teenage victim of gun violence, is deeply disturbing. Congresswoman Greene has demonstrated her lack of regard for our democracy and its institutions, choosing instead to fan the flames of division and hate — the same elements motivating the domestic terrorists who stormed the Capitol just three weeks ago. There must be consequences for her actions. The Human Rights Campaign calls on House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy to hold her accountable and remove Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from all her assigned Congressional committees at the very least.’

David added that the “integrity of our democratic institutions should be important to all elected officials regardless of political party,” but Republicans have yet to launch any kind of substantive systematic pushback against Greene. As the Human Rights Campaign leader mentioned, Greene was once caught on camera harassing Parkland shooting survivor David Hogg, who she maniacally followed through the streets of D.C., hurling insults along the way. In another incident, Greene liked a Facebook comment speaking approvingly of a “bullet to the head” for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), and in yet another instance, Greene herself was caught on camera delusionally characterizing Pelosi as guilty of a “crime punishable by death.”

The Republican Party is openly enabling Greene’s extremism in the service of their political agenda. In yet another instance of her incendiary behavior, Greene said, on camera, that “the only way you get your freedoms back is it’s earned with the price of blood.” Instead of supporting Greene’s immediate removal from Congress in light of previously known examples of her dangerous behavior, House Republican leaders elevated her to a spot on the chamber’s education committee!
