Last month the former mayor was the recipient of a 49-page complaint that detailed each and every one of his election lies. Over 3,100 attorneys and others have called for his law license to be revoked. These include “a former Attorney General, 14 ex-federal judges, and three dozen former prosecutors at the office Rudy Giuliani once led,” according to The New York Daily News.
Lawyers Defending American Democracy led the charge and is continually updating the list. Primarily, they have been concerned with Giuliani’s fake claims that Donald Trump won the 2020 presidential election, and conversely, that President Joe Biden stole it.
What did Giuliani do? Did he hunker down and try to clear his name? No, he doubled down on what he said.
Attorneys calling for Giuliani’s license populate 48 of the 50 states. They signed a petition:
‘[A]sking the New York Bar Grievance Committee to investigate Giuliani’s fitness to work as an attorney.’
‘Among the signers are former Attorney General Stuart Gerson, former Bronx District Attorney Paul Gentile, former city Corporation Counsel Fritz Schwarz and Ronald Goldstock, the former head of the New York State Organized Crime Task Force.’
In addition to the attorneys, over 4,000 “concerned citizens” from the states whose votes Giuliani tried to overturn signed the petition.
A former prosecutor in the Southern District of New York, Christine Chung said:
‘The signers are lawyers and ordinary citizens across the country who see that Giuliani’s conduct is both way out of bounds and destroying our democracy. Giuliani either won’t or can’t stop spreading the big lie of the stolen election and every time he lies, it divides society.’
During the 1980s the former New York mayor took his publicity from felling members of the mafia in the SDNY. In a terrible fall from grace, Giuliani received a 49-page page complaint about his current activities.
He is currently being sued for $1.3 billion by Dominion Voting Systems for attacking that business’ credibility. After his time at the SDNY, the former New York mayor surely knew what he was doing was wrong. He blamed the company for throwing the election away from Trump and handing it to President Joe Biden. That was a cruel lie.
The letter indicated that Giuliani appeared on the former Trump campaign CEO and Trump adviser Steve Bannon’s podcast. There the former mayor claimed:
‘[T]he Jan. 6 riots at the U.S. Capitol by fanatical Trump supporters were actually a secret plot by the Lincoln Project political action committee.’
The Lincoln Project has called Giuliani out over his claim “a textbook case of defamation.”
Previously, Guiliani said he could prove his claims of election fraud with evidence. Time for show-and-tell will soon be here.
