If the defendant’s attorney, Bruce Castor, is anything like other members of Donald Trump’s White House and inner circle, he will not be working tomorrow. Why? He committed the ultimate sin.
Castor stood up as a poor follow-up act to the Democratic prosecutors after their opening arguments. The Dems’ attorneys were polished, genuine, and brimming with sharp intelligence.
Conversely, Castor came across as a little dusty and worn. He had most of the right words but none of the conviction of those who preceded him. That was not the real problem though.
Donald Trump still writes letters on near-presidential sealed stationery. All the correspondence refers to him as the “45th president.” No one calls him the former president, because 45’s whole case is based upon winning the 2020 election, his claim that the election was stolen from him.
For this post-president, being a “loser” is the worst of aspersions.
Vox.com journalist Aaron Ruper captured Castor sealing his own fate below:

Castor used the fact that Trump lost “fair-and-square” as part of his opening argument. Worse, he used it at the end of his time, so it carried more impact. Uh, oh.
Not only did Castor use that language, he used it again and again and again. Maybe, he wants to be fired. That would probably do it. Could be that he is already tired of the screaming chaos that is Trump. Then, again maybe Castor is just not that good.
Pretty much all of the good attorneys have abandoned ex-POTUS. Will Castor return? Watch this space.
Twitter world went nuts when they recognized what Castor had done. Check out some of our favorite responses below:
