New York Leaders Move To Terminate Four Trump City Contracts

New York City authorities have moved to swiftly push the Trump family business out of public park services in the area. Previously, the Trump Organization has operated two Central Park ice skating rinks, a carousel in the same area, and the Ferry Point golf course in the Bronx, but New York City leaders have moved to terminate all four of these contracts. The Trump Organization is closing the skating rinks on Sunday in order to allow for enough time to clear out the premises before the official terminations of their rink contracts, which take effect next Friday. Mayor Bill de Blasio moved up these termination dates from an original end point in April.

Eric Trump, an executive vice president at the Trump Organization and one of the ex-president’s sons, petulantly complained to the New York Post about the development. As Eric angrily put it:

‘De Blasio is now shutting down skating season while New York dies. It’s horribly sad. The mayor is absolutely petty. This isn’t about us, this is about the people of the city who come here to skate and disabled kids who joined hockey teams and others who joined skating school and take lessons every week.’

Pretending like New York City authorities are somehow singling out “disabled kids” is bizarre. In reality, authorities are actively searching for a replacement operator for the rinks. As Parks Department spokesperson Crystal Howard put it, authorities “are working diligently through our competitive RFP process to secure new operators for these great amenities so as not to impact the respective seasons.”

Eric characterized New York City as “a dying city which everyone is leaving because of rising crime, high taxes, closed businesses and totally incompetent leadership” — but what’s with the right-wing obsession with describing New York City as some variation of “dying”? New York City originally moved to terminate the Trump Organization’s rink and park services contracts after the deadly rioting at the U.S. Capitol on January 6 that Donald inspired with his deranged lie that the 2020 election was rigged for Joe Biden — an idea that he’s still sticking to, according to a recently aired Fox News interview.
