Donald Trump escaped with all of his heinous crimes, ones that were even televised. Or did he? Amidst worries over another January 6, former district attorney and current Representative Eric Swalwell (D-CA) was busy laying out the kindling at the ex-president’s feet. Friday, he threw on the match releasing a very hot fire.
Trump, his oldest son Donald Trump Jr., and a number of his friends have just been sued for inciting the January 6 failed coup at the nation’s Capitol. Swalwell filed a 65-page lawsuit against the ex in federal court in Washington, D.C. The representative also names Representative Mo Brooks (R-AL) and Trump’s personal attorney Rudolph (Rudy) Giuliani for their part in inciting the riot and a number of other federal and D.C. laws.
The California attorney wrote, according to CNN:
‘The horrific events of January 6 were a direct and foreseeable consequence of the Defendants’ unlawful actions. As such, the Defendants are responsible for the injury and destruction that followed.’
The ex sent out an invitation to hundreds of thousands of his followers to come to see him for a “wild time.” Then, he and his opening acts ginned them up to a fevered pitch. The final plum was Trump ordering his primarily ragtag army to the Capitol Building, and he would go with them. Militarized and organized homegrown terrorists went, too.
Imagine the 10,000 angry people descending in undulating waves. The scene was unimaginable even to Capitol Police. Over 800 of the mob breached the heart of our nation, hunting for humans and chanting:
‘Hang Mike Pence! Hang Mike Pence!’
Without the valiant efforts of the Capitol Police and D.C. police force, we could have lost our entire Democracy. The mob came within scant minutes and mere feet of finding Pence, and the senators, and representatives. One Capitol Police officer lost his life, another his eye, and 140 others were injured.
Trump sat in the White House watching events unfold, enthusiastic. He could not understand why the people around him were so horrified, according to reports.
The lawsuit tells how the former president spent months building his case for his followers, claiming that the election was “rigged.” It had been stolen from him, and they were going to take back what was rightfully his. They would save the country.
The individuals that Swalwell named in the lawsuit each spoke on the stage before Trump took it to a climax. Ironically, ginning up a crowd is one of the few abilities the ex actually had and displayed during his four years in office. After his disinformation campaign, Trump told the rioters to steal back his rightful presidency by stopping the Electoral College vote count.
Swalwell’s suit read:
‘Trump directly incited the violence at the Capitol that followed and then watched approvingly as the building was overrun.’
The Axios reported:
‘As a direct and foreseeable consequence of the Defendants’ false and incendiary allegations of fraud and theft, and in direct response to the Defendants’ express calls for violence at the rally, a violent mob attacked the U.S. Capitol.’
