We knew it was coming. NBC’s Saturday Night Live (SNL) saw Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) take over the airwaves day after day. Each newsflash moved him deeper into the dumbest mistake category. Except, it was not exactly a mistake.

The Florida representative has been under investigation for an alleged inappropriate relationship. with a minor. He also may face sex trafficking laws, because she was allegedly just 17-years-old.

He was just too tempting of a target for SNL to resist. On Weekend Update, host Colin Jost announced:

‘Rep. Matt Gaetz, who looks like a caricature artist drawing of me, is reportedly under investigation for an alleged sexual relationship with an underage girl. Because Gaetz believes only voters should have to show ID.’

Jost just could not leave Gaetz alone, and the audience, if there had been one,  would have roared:

‘If I could get back to Matt Gaetz for a minute. Here’s the craziest part of the story to me: A sitting congressman is being accused of child trafficking, and the QAnon people are suddenly like, “Nah, I need more evidence.” That was your whole thing!’

SNL was not finished with Gaetz though. In the SNL cold open, Oops, You Did It Again show, comedian Pete Davidson played the Gaetz role of “social pariahs of the week” winner. Cast member Chloe Fineman played interviewer Britney Spear. Davidson introduced himself:

‘Matt Gaetz, like Bill Gates but with a Z at the end, like a cool version for teens.’

Fineman picked it up from there:

‘Speaking of teens…’

Gaetz’s own party was just waiting for the ice of bad choices to break, so much so that no one would dare get caught in a photograph with him. He even showed adult photos of women on the House Floor. But Gaetz said he had no intention of stepping down from his position in the House.

Fineman probed further:

‘[The] whole story is so bizarre, so incredibly Florida, that I need to get it straight. You were dating a 17-year-old and brought her on trips across state lines. Prostitutes say you took ecstasy and had sex with them in Florida hotel rooms.’

‘And your Republican colleagues in Congress say you’ve shown them adult photos of women you were sleeping with.’

Davidson playing Gaetz inserted:

‘Which is not a crime, just horrifying.’ [People] are just targeting me because I defended Donald Trump.’

Fineman a Spears responded:

‘And what has Trump said in your defense?’

Davidson answered:

‘Giggity squat.’

Gaetz and a friend, former Florida county tax collector, allegedly paid numerous women they had recruited online for sex, according to The New York Times.

The representative has denied he had a sexual relationship with the 17-year-old. Instead, he claimed that he and his family had been targeted in a $25 million extortion scheme.
