He is described as Representative Matt Gaetz’s (R-FL) “wingman.” Joel Greenberg looked up to the representative, so it was probably not an equally balanced relationship. We do not know at this point whether their relationship was the Florida lawmaker just hanging out with his admiring wingman or whether he used Greenberg to do a Trump.
The ex-president surrounded himself with a ring of people willing to do his bidding. There were his former personal attorney and fixer Michael Cohen, Representative Devin Nunez (R-CA) who was his minion link as Chair of the House Intelligence Committee, then there was Gaetz. The Florida representative ran off to Wyoming trying to undermine Representative Liz Cheney after she criticized Trump. All of the men encircling Trump could also take the fall for the president.
Gaetz might have had the same tendencies, and if that was how he used Greenberg, that will soon come out. The Politico magazine obtained a copy of the wingman’s WhatsApp message.
Greenberg was definitely panicking when he realized he was under federal investigation for alleged illicit activities. Investigators knew that he used his Venmo mobile payment account as a way to pay a 17-year-old child for sex. In Florida. she was under the age of consent by law.
In a message, Greenberg warned an unidentified friend:
‘I’m trying to let everyone know who came into contact with any of these girls that the feds are going through my Venmo history and don’t want anyone to be caught off guard.’
His friend responded:
‘Absolutely positively leave my name the f*ck out of any of this/ I’m serious about this Joel.’
In addition, Greenberg told this friend that “everyone is going to need a lawyer.” He was referring to the fallout from his own arrest. Still, the friend pushed him, insisting that he was not involved in anything related to Greenberg and his activities:
‘I have nothing to do with any of this and think it is incredibly uncool you are trying to lawyer me up to be a part of it, Joel.’
