He endangered the United States for four years with his delusions, whether he believed them or not. It all culminated in a failed coup. But things are changing.
Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer described in a tweet a Trump statement as “unhinged”. In his statement, Trump accused this county of “deleting an elections database.” Richer called on other Republicans to halt “the unfounded accusations:”
‘Wow. This is unhinged. I’m literally looking at our voter registration database on my other screen. Right now. We can’t indulge these insane lies any longer. As a party. As a state. As a country. This is as readily falsifiable as 2+2=5. If we don’t call this out…’
Richter, who became recorder in January after beating the Democratic incumbent, continued in his tweet:
‘I came to this office to competently, fairly, and lawfully administer the duties of the office. Not to be accused by own party of shredding ballots and deleting files for an election I didn’t run. Enough.’
Trump’s statement said, in part:
‘[T]he entire Database of Maricopa County in Arizona has been DELETED! This is illegal and the Arizona State Senate, who is leading the Forensic Audit, is up in arms.’
Republican Chairman Jack Sellers, chair of the Republican-dominated Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, said he has been using Twitter “aggressively” and “slamming the private company doing the audit,” according to The Associated Press (AP). The board will hold a public hearing meeting on Monday to detail what he sees:
‘I know you all have grown weary of lies and half-truths six months after 2020 General Elections.’
Republican Senate President Karen Fann asked the county officials to the Senate. She suggested that the contractors, Cyber Ninjas, be allowed to look at the county routers’ detailed data about the county facilities, but only with the sheriff’s people supervising:
‘The Senate has no interest in viewing or taking possession of any information that is unrelated to the administration of the 2020 general election.’
County officials gave the Cyber Ninjas the passwords but remained against giving the company whose Maricopa County audit is its first, the data, because it would “compromise sensitive data, including “classified law enforcement information held by the sheriff’s office.”
New York Attorney General (AG) Letitia James’ office has Trump and the Trump Organization’s finances under investigation. Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance retired in December, so it behooves him to wrap the case up before then. It is unlikely that he would want to pass the baton to another DA.
