Liz Cheney Implies Trump Is A Communist During Twitter Take-Down

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) is continuing her stark criticism of the lies about last year’s presidential election from former President Donald Trump, who has claimed — in the absence of any meaningful evidence — that the presidential race was somehow rigged. On Twitter this week, alongside a clip of a recent interview that she did, Cheney compared Trump’s lies about the election to rhetoric from the Chinese Communist Party, which claims, in her description, that democracy as it stands in the United States is a failed system.

Cheney pointedly commented as follows:

‘Former President Trump’s claim that our electoral system can’t function and that democracy has failed spreads the dangerous rhetoric of the Chinese Communist Party. We all have an obligation to speak out against those efforts.’

Trump has continued to display his anti-democratic tendencies just recently. After the public announcement of a criminal investigation of his company by New York state Attorney General Letitia James (D), Trump complained on his blog in reference to James and her supporters that “If you can run for a prosecutor’s office pledging to take out your enemies, and be elected to that job by partisan voters who wish to enact political retribution, then we are no longer a free constitutional democracy.”

In fact — the ability for large enough groups of voters to band together and take meaningful electoral action against a public official is one of the basic principles of democracy! The existence of and participation in the electoral process by voters who oppose Trump does not in any remotely legitimate way mean that democracy itself is on the brink, as the former president claimed. Trump is consistently going after democracy itself as it exists in the United States. In its place, he appears to seek the establishment of cultish authoritarianism, where dissent isn’t acceptable.
