Donald Trump managed to implant rot into a substantial number of federal agencies. Take the Secret Service. Good agents risked their careers to give Susan Del Perccio a warning about agents who now protect President Joe Biden’s White House. They were wearing MAGA hats and red ties to support Trump. But MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow’s comment about the book is actually quite applicable to President Biden’s approach to governing and changes he is making in order to support the LGBTQ community.

Maddow said this about The Washington Post’s investigative reporter’s book on Amazon:

‘[Del Perccio shines] a light on the operational difficulties, leadership issues, controversies, and other problems the Service faces; so that hopefully improvements can be made in the future.’

Of course, Maddow was speaking about the author’s new book Zero Fail: The Rise and Fall of the Secret Service.  But the Biden administration’s top agencies have been hard at work correcting what Trump wrought — a complete reversal of President Barack Obama’s policies.

President Biden’s White House promised to reverse all “Trump-era policies restricting LGBTQ access to housing, health care and equal treatment in prisons,” according to Axios

It reported that Trump tried to undo much of what President Barack Obama accomplished during his eight years in office. Trump came in with a commercial-duty stamping machine and:

  • ‘[Made it] easier for hospitals to deny trans people health coverage under Health and Human Services Secretary (HHS).
  • Allowed HUD’s federally funded emergency shelters to exclude trans people and others based on gender identity.
  • Allowed the Department of Justice (DOJ)’s prison officials to violate the Constitution by refusing to house transgender prisoners in facilities that match their gender identity.’

President Biden promised to reverse each of these. His HHS Secretary  Xavier Becerra is also currently reinstating anti-discrimination protections for LGBTQ people

GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis released a statement to Axios that read:

LGBTQ Americans have faced discrimination for too long, and many federal policies had only just begun to offer much-needed protections during the Obama administration.’

Keep an eye on the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division as it “considers trans students protected under Title IX,” which is a reversal of yet another Trump rule. A DOJ spokesperson said:

‘[The agency] intends to fully enforce our civil rights statutes to protect transgender individuals.’
