Worldwide approval of President Joe Biden is dramatically higher than the level of confidence that former President Donald Trump garnered from international respondents while in office, according to a new Pew Research Center survey. In the 12 nations where respondents participated in Pew’s survey this year and in last year’s edition of the poll, a median of a whopping 75 percent of respondents indicated that they’re confident in Biden to “do the right thing regarding world affairs.” Last year, Trump garnered such trust from a median of just 17 percent of respondents in those 12 countries.

Concurrently, respondents also indicated that they view the United States more favorably than they did at the conclusion of Trump’s time in office. At that point, just 34 percent of respondents indicated a favorable view of the country — now, it’s 62 percent, marking another big difference. Good numbers for Biden extend on from there. In the new survey, just 13 percent of respondents characterized him as “arrogant,” although a staggering 90 percent (aptly) said the same about Trump in last year’s international survey. A full 77 percent of respondents characterized Biden as “well-qualified,” but only 16 percent of respondents characterized Trump the same way.

Biden has traveled overseas this week, where he was set to meet with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and others. Vice President Kamala Harris recently took her own first trip as vice president out of the country, traveling to Guatemala and Mexico amid concerns about rates of migration to the U.S. southern border. The Trump administration prioritized steps like pointless wall construction in the middle of the desert and forcing migrants out of the country rather than expanding the U.S. capacity to safely care for those arriving at the border.

Meanwhile, the high level of approval that Biden garnered from an international audience in this new survey mirrors the high approval level that he has consistently received from Americans. A recent HarrisX survey found that a whopping 61 percent of respondents said that they approve of Biden’s job performance, which bodes well for Democratic chances heading into the upcoming critical midterm elections.
