President Joe Biden brought onboard a super-energized team of Clydesdales, all the president’s men and women. They are the best in their respective fields and savvy professionals who understand exactly what their boss wants out of them. They have been generating a mountain of groundwork. But their efforts go hidden behind an opaque screen until they attain a specific goal. Thursday, President Biden’s White House announced that Donald Trump’s head of the U.S. Border Patrol, Rodney Scott was gone.
This cleared a pathway for a complete leadership changing of the guard given that these individuals were sympathetic to Donald Trump. The agency faced a 20-year high in the number of illegal border crossings. The agency detained 180,000 migrants, the highest one-month total in May.
Scott released a statement Wednesday noting that the White House gave him the option of resigning, retiring, or relocating. There was no rationale, just a pro format notice “so the new administration can place the person they want in the position.”
That was not unusual when a new administration takes office. Scott’s current and previous colleagues were a bit surprised that he was allowed to stay in position as long as he had. This, especially as he appeared beside Trump during the 2020 presidential campaign, pushing 45’s hard policies.
Scott made known his frustration that President Biden reversed the former president’s policies. He considered them effective, his colleagues said. The employee wrote on his Facebook page that he had 60 more days, but he had not made a decision about whether he would take the reassignment option.
A source with Homeland Security told The Washington Post that Deputy Chief Raul Ortiz will take his place until a permanent person heads the U.S. Border Patrol.
President Biden’s administration nominated Tuscon police chief Chris Magnus to permanently lead the Customs and Border Patrol agency. He has been associated with the law enforcement reform movement.
