‘Lincoln Project’ Goes After Corporate Enablers Of Trump Insurrection

The anti-Trump conservative group known as The Lincoln Project released a new ad this week going after Toyota, the auto manufacturer, for their financial support of certain Republican members of Congress who voted against certifying Joe Biden’s election victory. A Toyota spokesperson defended these company donations to Axios, insisting that the manufacturer does “not believe it is appropriate to judge members of Congress solely based on their votes on the electoral certification” — although “electoral certification,” as the company put it, is a pretty foundational issue!

The way that members of Congress voted when faced with the task of certifying the presidential election outcome reveals whether they were willing to accept the outcome of the democratic process in the United States. For a total of 147 Republicans across both chambers of Congress — including 37 Republican members of Congress who have received donations from Toyota this year — the answer is that they were not, in fact, willing to accept the democratic process as it stands. Instead, they stuck by deceptive conspiracy theories and sought to undercut democracy, in the form that it has been set up in the United States.

In the new ad for The Lincoln Project, a narrator says as follows:

‘America’s free-market, democratic system has been good for companies like Toyota for a long time. So why would Toyota support politicians who try to overthrow the very system that’s been so profitable for them? Toyota’s given more money than any company to the seditious politicians who voted to overturn the 2020 election result. They even hired Mitch McConnell’s former chief of staff as a lobbyist. Toyota’s number one at finding ways to financially reward the very party that took our nation to the brink on January 6, helping finance a movement that violently sought to take votes away from American customers, not to mention Toyota’s own employees. It’s time to call Toyota’s corporate leadership: If they don’t reconsider where they send their money, Americans will reconsider where we send ours.’

The Lincoln Project says that it is planning on soon releasing more videos targeting companies that have financially supported those who opposed certifying the election results. Watch below:
